RURAL WOMEN

A rural lady is a superhero, one however not written in books…
She’s loving and nurturing, she cleans, caters and cooks.
She feeds a tribe, runs the office and can work a mob of cattle…
She can strain a fence, drive a machine and even jump in the saddle.
They tackle every task at their hand, with grit and with grace…
They’re the first with medical aid, a bush nurse in any case.
This woman can catch a fish, grow a garden and fire a gun…
And when she’s with her girls, she sure knows how to have fun.
She jumps behind the bar, but still gets out to carve up a dance floor…
When it comes to keeping rural Australia running, SHE is the core.
The backbone of the operation, she does all the behind the scenes…
Yet she never asks for the credit, she handles it, by all means.
She’s on boards, in committees and even finds time for the ICPA…
Multitasking is her nature, you’ll be amazed what she achieves in a day.
The one who chases up suppliers, logs the stock and makes the calls…
Handles the finance, bargains the deals and plans when numbers fall.
They are the first to nurse a baby and take the weight off a tired mum…
First to lend a helping hand and can enjoy a cheeky rum.
A bottle of bubbly and good grids, then she no doubt is pleased…
Her ability to wrangle up bush kids is never at all ceased.
She’s there when something’s wrong or when you’re feeling a little low…
She has a shoulder to cry on with motherly advice always in tow.
A rural woman is classy, but still knows how to stand her ground…
She can take on any doubtful judgement and conquer any great mound.
A ‘just get on with it’ attitude no matter what she may endure…
Her instinct is powerful, she always seems to know the cure.
Her time is precious and yet she spares it all to others…
Not just her family; but her workers, she always mothers.
She is stronger than most and she is tougher than nails…
Through floods, fires and droughts she never once bails.
The kind of woman who’s not afraid to get down, dirty and dusty…
But her ability to scrub up presentable, is never at all rusty.
A bit of denim, a bright lippy and neck scarf always in fashion…
Raising her kids and running a business, rural life is her passion.
It is with such gratitude I am surrounded by ladies such as these…
They’ve taught me all that I know and guide me through life with ease.
They can organise an event and sure know how to host…
So, it to these incredible ladies, let us raise a toast!
Without these rural women, s**t just wouldn’t get done…
My ultimate inspirations and biggest supporters all in one!
