|| 2026 SILVER SPONSOR ||

Giving a shoutout to the amazing businesses and people supporting the RWU event in 2026 just seems to be hitting differently for us… so many sponsors are just incredible and are coming back year after year, just like the amazing team at 🩷

We received the most beautiful email from Anne after last years luncheon, and it amplified even more just what a privilege it has been for us to work alongside, collaborate with, and meet such wonderful people.

WHAT A PRIVILEGE 🥰

Thank you so much for once again helping to make an impact. We can’t wait to party with you on the 5th September.

Each guest will also receive a discount voucher in their goodie bag once again this year to take and shop the Donohues store.

——————————————————

Donohues has a longstanding history with rural and remote Queensland.

The original Donohues store dates back to the 1929 and began in Boulia, South West Queensland. Started by the Donohue family we began as a general store, with an accompanying Dodge truck which serviced the surrounding small towns and all the cattle stations and work camps in the region.

The Donohues, Cliff & Betty, partnered with Howard & Janet Carpenter in the 80’s and grew the business to include stores in Mount Isa and Townsville.

Today, Donohues operates as a single store, housed in the iconic building on Charters Towers Road, Townsville. Over 800m2 of floor space offering all the brands country people rely on and plenty more. The business is still family owned and operated by Anne Musumeci, daughter of Howard and Janet Carpenter. The Townsville business has been going since 1983 and we take great pride in offering the same good old fashioned country service that generations of Donohues customers have come to expect and enjoy.

Let’s take a little walk down memory lane…

The year was 2018.

The venue, Headricks Lane Rockhampton.

The occassion… the inaugural Rural Women Unite Ladies Luncheon.

The vision… to raise awareness of the incredible mental health service provided by

106 ladies believed in that vision and bought a ticket 🥹

We managed to put together a small multi-draw, and raised just over $2000 on the day. We were stoked. Humbled. This was just the beginning.

Looking back, gosh we have come so far and learned SO much, but boy are we grateful for those beautiful women who bought a ticket to that very first event. Without them, RWU would not have flourished into what it has become today.

This year we will tick over a quarter of a million dollars raised for 🙌🙌🙌🙌

That equates to lives saved. Lives changed. Burdens lifted. Problems shared and halved.

Thank you to each and every magnificent woman who has played a role in bringing RWU to life over the last eight years. YOU are the ones making the impact 🥹

Here’s an alarming statistic…

21% of the people using the Virtual Psychologist service are over the age of 61…

21%.

Why should we be alarmed by this?

Because these very people, the generation who should moving into a season of life where stress is alleviated and freedom is gained, are feeling more under pressure than ever. They are feeling alone, isolated, they’re navigating grief, and the recent budget has them facing much higher levels of financial strain.

Add to that, that the recent budget kicked the mental health support system as a whole in the gut. Multiple government contracts have been wiped out causing those offering free service to be forced to down scale and lay off valuable employees.

At a time when access to timely mental health support services is more needed than ever before, they have overnight, become less available.

MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Now more than ever, it is our role as a community to ensure than those who need it, have prompt and ongoing access to FREE professional support services.

If you you can reach out to our dedicated free support line, just text: 0488807266

|| GUEST SPEAKER PANELLIST ||

Gayle Shann

Born and raised on a large isolated cattle station in North Queensland, Gayle was the third of four girls and learnt the value of independence, resilience, and hard work from a very young age.

Growing up in a horse-loving family, horses were always a way of life, however campdrafting was something Gayle discovered for herself after leaving school — and it quickly became a passion. It was through campdrafting that she met her husband, Mac, and in 1999, the pair married young and full of dreams for the future.

Just twelve months later, they stepped into the management role of a newly acquired family property, beginning their journey together at Cantaur Park.

But less than two years later, life changed forever.

While fencing on the property, Gayle was involved in a tragic farming accident after becoming caught in a post hole digger behind a tractor. She suffered multiple devastating injuries, including the amputation of her right arm and shoulder. Shortly after, she was also faced with the heartbreaking reality that her left arm had been left completely paralysed.

——————————————————

There are many words that come to mind when we think of Gayle Shann…

Inspirational. Resilient. Courageous. Kind-hearted. A remarkable horse and cattle woman. Salt of the earth.

But above all else — humble.

With incredible bravery and grace, Gayle will be sharing her journey with us — a story of unimaginable adversity, enduring love, determination, and a life rebuilt with strength and purpose. It is a story that has inspired so many across rural Australia and beyond.

We are deeply honoured to welcome Gayle to Charters Towers on the 5th of September, and we know her story will touch every single person in the audience.

Truthfully… writing this alone had us reaching for the tissues.
