Queensland swimmers continued to dominate at the Australian Trials in Sydney, led by Kaylee McKeown who capped off her meet with a stunning 200m backstroke victory in 2:03.98. 🏆

There were also standout performances from Lani Pallister, who added the 800m freestyle title to her growing medal haul, and Lizzy Dekkers, who broke the 2:05 barrier in the 200m butterfly for the first time in her career. ⭐

In the men's 100m freestyle, Flynn Southam, Kai Taylor and Harrison Turner all featured in a thrilling final behind Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers, while Queensland's Para swimmers continued to impress across the pool.

Another exciting night at the Australian Trials! ⚡

Queenslanders continued to shine in Sydney, with Kaylee McKeown defending her 100m backstroke title, Sam Short storming home to claim the 200m freestyle crown, Alex Perkins securing the 50m butterfly title, and Para star Madeleine McTernan adding another National title to her growing collection. 🔥

The night also delivered a thrilling men's 200m freestyle final, with relay spots for the Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships on the line. 🏊

Virtus World Record 🚀

Ben Hance has continued his assult on the Virtus World record for the 50m bacsktroke, the 25-year-old form the Sunshine Coast qualified for his first open final – in eighth place, believed to be the first time a Multi-Disability athlete has reached that milestone in Australian swimming.

Hance clocked a time of 25.65 in his heat swim, lowering his previous mark of 25.76. It is the sevent time Hance has lowered the Virtus world record for athletes with an intellectual impairment.

Queensland swimmers have made a flying start to the 2026 Australian Trials 🚀

⭐ Sam Short stormed to victory in the 400m freestyle in a world-leading 3:40.67, just 0.71 seconds outside the world record.
⭐ Lani Pallister led a St Peters Western trifecta in the women’s 400m freestyle.
⭐ Kaylee McKeown and Mollie O’Callaghan produced the two fastest women's 50m backstroke times in the world this year.
⭐ Alex Perkins claimed the women’s 100m butterfly.
⭐ Isaac Cooper won the men’s 50m backstroke.
⭐ Maddie McTernan, Ruby Storm and Jack Ireland booked their spots for the Para Pan Pacific Championships.

The biggest week on the Australian swimming calendar is here! 🔥

Queensland’s elite swimmers are set to take centre stage at the 2026 Australian Selection Trials in Sydney, chasing spots on the Australian teams for the Commonwealth Games, Pan Pacs and Para Pan Pacs. 🚀

Leading the charge are Olympic gold medallists Kaylee McKeown, Cam McEvoy and Mollie O’Callaghan, alongside Paralympic champions Lakeisha Patterson, Ben Hance and Tom Gallagher.

With international team selections on the line and some of the biggest names in Australian swimming ready to race, it's shaping up to be an unmissable six days of competition.

Queensland swimmers delivered an impressive three days of racing at the 2026 Sydney Open & UniSport Nationals at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

Bond stars Flynn Southam and Ben Armbruster led the charge alongside freestyle sprinter Hannah Casey, breaststroke standout Tilly King and Paralympic champion Callum Simpson.

Southam featured in thrilling sprint finishes, Casey completed a freestyle treble, while Armbruster claimed three titles across butterfly and backstroke events. Simpson also dominated the Para events with victories across freestyle and IM races 💪

With Australian Trials just weeks away, Queensland athletes are building strong momentum heading into a massive international selection meet.

🌴🏊‍♂️ Queensland swimmers have returned from the 2026 Oceania Championships in Fiji with an incredible medal haul, helping Australia top the medal tally with 36 medals overall!

Queenslanders played a major role in the campaign, highlighted by individual gold medals to:
🥇 Keahne Bergin – Women’s 200m Breaststroke
🥇 Lachlan Evans – Men’s 1500m Freestyle
🥇 Annaliese Matthews – Women’s 200m Butterfly

Queensland Para Stars Selected for Glasgow 2026

Sunshine Coast Paralympic champion Lakeisha Patterson headlines a strong Queensland contingent selected for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Patterson will compete at her fourth Commonwealth Games, joined by fellow Queenslanders Emily Beecroft, Kirralee Hayes, Jack Ireland, Jenna Jones, Maddie McTernan, Harrison Vig and debutant Victoria Belando-Nicholson.

The squad combines Paralympic experience with exciting emerging talent as Australia prepares for Glasgow 2026 🌟

The selection announcement is the first of two for Swimming Australia at Glasgow 2026.
A full team announcement for swimming will follow at the close of the Australian Swimming Trials on 13 June.
