At the Lions Youth of the Year quest- District Final judging held on April 11 at Wangi, Our club was strongly represented by Ila Stothard from St Phillips Christian College who had previously won at our club level.
Among 7 young people Ila was a delight to hear her public speaking to an audience of over 80 people from throughout the Lions District.
Earlier in the day all contestants had faced interviews with a judging panel before addressing the dinner crowd for the public speaking.
The judges had a lengthy decisionmaking before finally awarding the District title to a student from Medowie. However, not only did Ila do herself proud, she did her family and school proud as they all came to witness and support her.

Happy to lend a hand cooking & serving the BBQ at the event today.

Congratulations to all our 2026 Lions Youth of the Year participants who today faced the judging panel for interviews and then a short Public Speaking segment.

Ila from St Philip's Christian College Cessnock, and Emmaline, Ivy & Felicity from Cessnock High School wow'd the judges giving them a difficult decision.
Finally Ila Stothard was chosen as overall winner to go through to Lions Club District 201N3 judging in April, while Ivy Taylor impressed with public speaking, winning that title.
Lions are proud to support such amazing youth, and wish them well with their future ambitions.
