We provide Support Coordination, Accomodation and Community Support for people with disabilities. The group gained swift support from the Hunter community.

In the 1970s, a group of local parents came together with one goal: to improve care and support services for people with disability in the Hunter region. As parents of children with disability, they recognised that existing services were insufficient and needed to change. They were determined to provide their children and future generations with the quality support they deserved as valuable members of society. Tireless community fundraising efforts led to the opening of Cessnock Hostel in 1982, finally providing much-needed support to local residents with disability. In 2013, our organisation was renamed “Finding Yellow”. The name represents our unwavering commitment to the community and our determination to discover better resources, stronger community networks, and improved facilities for our clients. It is also a reflection of our clients’ individual journeys towards improved confidence, independence, goal success, and fulfilment. Starting with a handful of determined parents, Finding Yellow now offers an extensive range of disability support services to the local Hunter region.

😀Last week we held our biggest Community Forum yet, with 7 customers, 6 Support Workers and 3 family members sharing updates, questions and having their voices heard.

We shared news on what’s happening across our services, new SIL Practice Standards and future builds.
But the most valuable part? Genuine conversation with the people at the heart of our supports.

NDIS reforms continue to impact participants, families and providers across the sector.
Last Sunday, ConnectAbility CEO David Carey joined 2HD's Tony Vidray to discuss what these changes mean in practice and the importance of ensuring people with disability continue to receive the supports they need.

With a strong commitment to advocacy and inclusion, David highlighted the importance of ensuring NDIS reforms don't disadvantage vulnerable community members and that people with disability continue to receive the supports they need.

🐙✨ Friday Fun Day! ✨🐙
Our customers have been busy transforming the art room with a brand-new underwater theme!
Working together across Thursday and Friday art sessions, they created a colourful ocean scene complete with handmade jellyfish. The large jellyfish was cleverly made using an umbrella as the base before being papier-mâchéd and transformed into a stunning feature piece, while smaller jellyfish were added to bring the underwater world to life.
The art room theme is refreshed every six months, giving customers the chance to showcase their creativity and enjoy a whole new space.
