A High Fire Danger is expected across the Far South Coast tomorrow.

🔥 Rocky Hall / Big Jack Fire – CONTAINED

The Rocky Hall / Big Jack fire has now been contained to 24 hectares.

A huge effort from firefighters from the NSW RFS and NPWS over recent days, working in challenging conditions and difficult terrain, with support from heavy dozers and aircraft.

We were also lucky enough to see some welcome rain this afternoon.

A big thank you to the local community for your patience and support while crews have been working in the area.

While the fire is contained, crews will continue to monitor and patrol the area. Please continue to stay up to date and remain aware of changing conditions.

🔥Bush Fire Danger Period Starts 1st September 2026🔥

Tomorrow the Bush Fire Danger Period commences for the Far South Coast Fire District. This means that permits and notifications will be required to light and maintain a fire.

🕝Please allow adequate time for our permit officers to make contact and inspect your property. Remember that it is a two step process that requires a permit and notification.

🔥 Bush Fire Danger Period Starts 1 September

While the recent rain has been welcome across the Far South Coast, we still need a lot more. The landscape remains dry, fuels are curing, and conditions can change quickly.

With the Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) commencing on 1 September, residents will need a Fire Permit to light fires in the open, in addition to the existing requirement to notify.

We're also continuing to see a number of escaped burns across the district. What starts as a simple pile burn can rapidly become a threat to homes, property and the community.

Before you burn:
• Check weather and wind conditions carefully.
• Ensure you have adequate water and firefighting equipment on hand.
• Never leave a burn unattended.
• Monitor the fire until it is completely extinguished.
• Obtain the required Fire Permit from 1 September.

The cooler weather can create a false sense of security, but the reality is that much of the Far South Coast remains dry.
