HALT HALT aims to build a bridge between the Tradie community and local and national mental health organisations Hope Assistance Local Tradies.

We aim to build a bridge between existing support services for people at risk of su***de and our local community. That is, to facilitate the spreading of information and raise awareness of groups such as Lifeline and Beyond Blue on a national level and local health organisations in smaller communities. We have identified a need for greater support for people at risk, especially men in ‘tradie’ occ

upations, although we recognise the need for such support is broad. Our aim is to target the ‘tradies’. Our objectives are education and awareness of mental health issues. We want the ‘blokes’ to know it is ok to feel tired, stressed, frustrated and be ok with the vulnerability that comes with seeking assistance if and when they need it. HALT is hosting a 'Save your bacon' brekky in Harcourt on Tuesday the 31st of March, from 7am till 9am at Stanley Park, where the BBQ's are!
We originally said James Park but the awesome Castlemaine Lions club have offered to cook the BBQ so we will be there.
We'll have egg and bacon rolls, coffee, and some resources to help those impacted by the fires in January.
Keen to get a heap of tradies there and understand what support they need moving forward.
As well as Tradies, we'd love to have any community members come down for a free brekky!
A huge thanks to the Harcourt Progress Association for their support in making this happen.
Let's get the word out and see you there on Tuesday!

Awesome to get down to the Heidelberg campus of Melbourne Polytechnic TAFE this morning and talk about HALT, mental health and su***de prevention to around 250 apprentices over two sessions. Thanks to Shane and his SLAM team for the setup and for cooking so many egg and bacon sandwiches for all of us!

Always love getting out into Regional Victoria!
Last night I was in Inglewood at an awesome community event coordinated by the Loddon Plains Landcare Network in Inglewood!
A great turnout!
A huge thanks to Will, from the Loddon Plains Landcare Network for helping organise and lovely to meet Tom Siegert, The Suburban Footballer, our MC and comedic relief for the night, and Friggin funny...
Sorry we didn't get Marty Fields in the photo, he was the first comedian of the night, but had to leave early.
Lots of laughter and discussions throughout the night.
Thanks to all those that made this night so successful and sparked more conversations moving forward!

HALT was founded in 2013 and as we began to grow and expand our presence, and spread our message of su***de prevention we connected with an amazing, powerful and supportive bunch of community members in Central Victoria.
One of the most energetic, compassionate and caring was Noelene, who was inspirational, and motivated me to keep going with HALT.
We needed people to believe, share their story and keep the conversations going, and Noelene was one of those, who gave her time and energy to both MRSPAG, HALT and her community.
Sadly, Noelene passed away last Sunday, and the HALT community sends their love and support to Marcus, Lynsey and their family.
She was indeed a beautiful woman and will be sadly missed.
Thankyou for being a wonderful human...

New figures released by the ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) say that for males that died by su***de, technicians and trade workers was the most common major occupation group.
This group makes up 27.6% of male su***des in 2024.
HALT has been working in this space since 2013 and currently has no funding to respond to these tragic statistics.
We have Tafe's reaching out for us to come and present to their apprentices, council depots, small, medium and large construction, manufacturing...yet there is no funding to get out there to the worksites, face to face with lived experience.
I'm calling on both the State and Federal government to direct funding urgently to organisations, like HALT, that can reach the technicians and Tradies, across both regional and metropolitan area's at their workplaces or tafe's....
Early Intervention and prevention is required, education and understanding...it's not just bricks and mortar and phone services.

A massive thanks to Eden and the team from Kangan Institute for having HALT come along and talk with their apprentices at the Docklands campus.
We know, through our toolkit training program, that building and construction apprentices are struggling with mental health and thoughts of su***de so we greatly appreciate Kangan being proactive with getting the face to face and lived experience message across to their apprentices, a phone number isn't enough...

This breaks our HALT hearts in so many way, not sure where to begin...
Most of you know the work HALT does on small, medium and large construction sites, big build projects, at tafe's with apprentices, factories, council depots, footy and netball clubs and lots of other locations in community.
You also need to know that despite the best efforts and meetings with both State and Federal government we are no closer to being able to access any funding...
Thousands of talks, collaborations, weekly emails for us to come and talk to their workforce, yet no funding.
We need to realise that early intervention/prevention is key, lived experience, workplace talks can be effective.
We are not equipping our communities with the education, training and resources to help reduce the rates of su***de.
We need systemic change, not just speakers coming in for one talk to raise awareness, we deserve more...
It's time to roll up the sleeves...

The leading cause of death among construction workers is not falling from heights or electrocution – it is su***de. Some programs are helping, however.
