🚨 Emergency Medical Gain Access Responses in Casino Today 🚨

Today, VRA Rescue NSW – Casino responded to two Emergency Medical Gain Access incidents within the Casino area.

On both occasions, our Rescue Operators were able to gain entry to the properties without causing damage, allowing rapid access to patients requiring urgent assistance.

Once entry was made, our crews provided emergency care and support to the patients until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics. Our members then remained on scene to assist with the safe extrication of both patients from their properties to the waiting ambulances, ensuring a seamless transfer of care.

These incidents highlight the important role our volunteers play in supporting the community and assisting other emergency services when people are at their most vulnerable.

We thank our dedicated volunteers for their professionalism and commitment, and we acknowledge the ongoing partnership with NSW Ambulance in delivering timely care to those in need.

Training Night – Domestic Rescue Challenges

Last Tuesday evening, our members put their problem solving skills to the test with a series of domestic rescue scenarios.

One challenge involved the extrication of a casualty (our trusty training dummy!) from a confined shower space without the assistance of any rescue tools. While rescue is often associated with hydraulic cutters, spreaders and other specialised equipment, situations like this remind us that effective rescue is just as much about assessment, teamwork, communication and thinking outside the box.

These practical scenarios are invaluable for our newer operators and members who are new to the squad, helping them develop the confidence and skills needed to adapt to the unique challenges they may face in the real world.

Training nights like these reinforce an important lesson, it’s not always about the big tools. Sometimes the best rescue solution comes from careful planning, creativity and teamwork.

Well done to everyone involved for another productive night of training.

🚨 Road Traffic Crash – Casino 🚨

At approximately 10:20pm on Thursday, 11 June, Casino Rescue Squad was tasked to a reported single-vehicle rollover after a vehicle left the roadway and crashed through a fence on the Bruxner Highway near Llewellyns Rd Casino.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed the incident. NSW Police were assisting the driver from the vehicle, with Rescue Squad members also providing assistance. The passenger was likewise assisted from the vehicle by emergency services personnel.

The driver was subsequently taken into the care of Police for further assistance, while both occupants were assessed and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene. The passenger was transported to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Casino Rescue Squad worked alongside NSW Police and NSW Ambulance to ensure the scene was managed safely and efficiently.

Crews then stayed and assisted a local farmer to secure the cattle paddock to ensure cattle remained in the paddock overnight.

We remind all motorists to drive to the conditions, remain alert, and always wear a seatbelt.

Things Up Trees – It’s Been a Busy Week for Casino Rescue Squad!

Over the past week, Casino Rescue Squad crews have responded to two very different “things up trees” incidents.

📅 Tuesday 9 June

Our volunteers were activated to assist with a juvenile cat that had climbed high into a palm tree and become stranded while clinging to the tree’s inflorescence. Unfortunately, the palm had begun to rot, making it unsafe to use ladders for access.

Crews instead opted for a patient approach, attempting to coax the young feline down to safety. As additional rescue personnel arrived on scene, it became clear the cat wasn’t particularly fond of strangers and promptly made the decision to come down on its own, landing safely and unharmed.

📅 1:55am This Morning

In the early hours of this morning, crews were activated to reports of a male person stuck in a tree and too frightened to come down due to the presence of dogs below.

He wasn’t trapped, just refusing to step down.

Upon arrival, Police were already speaking with the male, who was perched approximately 4–5 feet above the ground on a tree branch. While there were dogs present, they were safely secured on the opposite side of a six foot fence within their yard.

Following some patient coaxing and formal police actions, our rescue crew assisted by holding the man’s hand as he carefully climbed down from his perch and returned safely to the ground.

Whether it’s cats, people, or anything else that finds itself in a difficult position, Casino Rescue Squad volunteers are always ready to help.

🚨 Motor Vehicle Collision – Barker Street, Casino 🚨

At approximately 10:00am today, emergency services were activated to reports of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Barker Street and West Street, Casino, with initial reports indicating a person was trapped.

VRA Rescue NSW Casino operators were first on scene and located a collision involving two vehicles, with one occupant remaining inside their vehicle. Our rescue crews immediately assessed both drivers and provided assistance while awaiting the arrival of other emergency services.

Both drivers were assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics, with one person requiring further medical treatment.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews assisted by establishing a hose line as a precaution while one driver remained seated in their vehicle and later undertook the clean-up of oil, fuel and debris from the roadway.

We would also like to thank the Richmond Valley Council staff who were working nearby and promptly assisted with traffic control around the incident until additional resources arrived.

A great example of agencies and community members working together to ensure a safe outcome for all involved.

🎉 What an Incredible Day! 🚒

A huge thank you to the hundreds of people who stopped by our display in Barker Street to chat with our Rescue Operators, learn more about VRA Rescue NSW, and check out our new Heavy Rescue Truck.

We were absolutely blown away by the support from the community. In fact, the response was so overwhelming that we completely ran out of our PR giveaways! 😲

It was fantastic to meet so many locals and visitors, answer your questions, and share a little about the work our volunteers do to keep our communities safe.

We would also like to thank everyone who lined the streets and gave us a wave, a smile, or a kind comment as we took part in the Brenda Armfield Street Parade. Your encouragement means a great deal to our volunteers and helps recognise the dedication of emergency service personnel across our region.

🥓 Breakfast with the Butchers – What a Morning! 🥩

Today the streets of Casino came alive as the entire CBD was transformed into one giant community breakfast for thousands of locals and visitors at the annual Breakfast with the Butchers event.

The volunteers from VRA Rescue NSW – Casino Rescue Squad were proud to be part of the action, cooking hundreds of sausages and steaks throughout the morning. The demand was incredible, and at times we struggled to keep up, but thanks to the hard work of our dedicated members, we managed to keep the BBQs firing right through until the end.

Thanks also to the Casino SES for joining us and serving the locals.

It was fantastic to see so many people out and about, catching up with friends, supporting local businesses, and enjoying a great breakfast together. Events like this showcase the strong community spirit that makes Casino such a great place to live.
