Popcorn and Candy! ⬇️😍

Melbourne Bird Veterinary Clinic proudly supports rescue birds, and this week's adoptable bird spotlight is from Lazzi's Legacy Bird Rescue & Sanctuary✨

"Popcorn & Candy are a pair of chatty, DNA tested male cockatiels who came to us after they were given as a gift to an unprepared family.

Popcorn is more active and is fully flighted, often whistling and foraging for tasty food. Candy on the other hand appears to have old injuries preventing him from being able to fly, and he is the quieter of the pair, often sitting and watching.

Neither bird is hand-tame, but both show great potential and with patience are likely to become fantastic companions.

Popcorn & Candy are negative for chlamydia psittaci (psittacosis), Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) and faecal parasites. They will be microchipped upon adoption. Ages Unknown.

A few successful adoptions from the past couple months 💙

All three have found three perfect homes, and have bonded to their new forever friend 🤭

The LLRS committee has made the difficult decision to only take stray birds for the next 3 months ⬇️

Our intake numbers have been consistently higher than our adoptions for the past 18 months, with an average of 40% of those intakes still awaiting homes. We have had 221 intakes and 132 adoptions since January 2025.

And don't get me wrong, we are very proud of these numbers.

But overcrowding is not good for any rescue, and we need to reduce intakes for the benefits of the birds. To ensure they can still be fed and housed appropriately.

LLRS is a suburban based micro rescue, and our day to day is run by one person who also works full time. We help as many as we can.

They are cleared for PBFD, Chlamydia, on faecal, DNA sexed and microchipped 🌼

Sussy, Rowan & Bananoah have been here for 6 months! 🫣

They are looking a patient owner who will work with them to gain their trust. They are curious but shy!

Adoption includes PBFD, Chlamydia and Faecal Screening, Microchipping and DNA Sexing which costs approximately $400 - $500 at an avian vet (so if you adopt, you won't have these additional costs).

Their diet is pellets (they eat harrisons, vetafarm, murphies, passwell), fresh vegetables and budgie seed as a treat. They also love corn on the cob and fruit as a treat.

Flew into a warehouse then flew into a window. Either plucked as a nestling or in the wild.

Sunbury - Adult Male - 21/06/2026
Held for 8 days at Lost Dogs Home but no owner came forward.
