Cycling Without Age is a not-for-profit charity that provides elderly people and those less able with an opportunity to avoid social isolation and remain active in their community by taking them out for bike rides in specially built trishaw ebikes piloted by volunteer cyclists. We believe everyone has the right to the wind in their hair, the right to experience the outdoors and the opportunity to tell their story in the environment where they have lived their lives.

⭐ COMMUNITY RIDE DAYS ⭐

We’ve been blessed with beautiful spring weather, sparkling waters, plenty of smiles, and some very special visitors!

We recently welcomed guests from Washington State, USA, who loved experiencing the beauty of Newcastle from our trishaws.

We also hosted a lovely couple from South Australia. Despite living with vision impairment, our passenger thoroughly enjoyed the ride and shared that while he still cycles regularly, these days it’s on a tandem bike.

One of our pilots brought along relatives visiting from Townsville, making for a wonderful family day out.

We also welcomed a passenger who had not left her house in 12 months and told us she’ll definitely be back.

Nature put on a show too, with seals regularly appearing along the breakwall. On one memorable ride, three playful seals delighted our passengers.

Our incredible volunteer pilots have been hard at work as demand continues to grow.

A huge thank you to the Port Authority of NSW for smoothing several bumps along the breakwall, helping make rides even more comfortable and accessible.

"My mother got to see sights she can't easily access otherwise. We really appreciate the service and your efforts."
"We had the most wonderful time celebrating our 65th wedding anniversary while cycling around the harbour and foreshore."

One of our pilots recently tested a couple of vintage bicycles and returned with a newfound appreciation for modern technology, saying: "I am happy we have battery power and more than a leather strap against a wheel for brakes!" 😄

And like so many across our community, our pilots got behind our mighty Newcastle Knights by decorating their bikes in the team’s red and blue colours ❤️💙

We've been making the most of the beautiful weather, welcoming plenty of happy passengers, first-time riders, and curious passers by keen to learn more about what we do.

Some special moments from recent rides included:
🎉 Celebrating a passenger's 90th birthday with a ride along the harbour.
🐕 Welcoming a very enthusiastic Jack Russell companion, who enjoyed the ride just as much as their owner.
🐬 Spotting playful dolphins along the coastline and watching seals entertain passengers near the breakwall.
🚂 Hosting a group from Hornsby who travelled to Newcastle by train for a day trip, enjoying rides.
👨‍👦 Sharing a memorable "Royal Tour" with Norm, aged 92, and his son visiting from Queensland, complete with stunning views, seals, and jet flyovers.
🚗 Welcoming a passenger who made a special trip from Singleton specifically to enjoy a ride with us.
🌊 Experiencing crystal-clear water that looked more like the Whitsundays than Newcastle!

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers and supporters who help create so many smiles every week. Here's to more sunshine, wildlife sightings, and unforgettable rides ahead! ☀️🚲💙

What an incredible few weeks on the trishaws!

From whale, dolphin and seal sightings around Newcastle's coastline, to busy mornings filled with new passengers including visitors from Germany, regular riders and family adventures, every ride brought smiles and special memories.

⭐ COMMUNITY RIDE DAYS ⭐

From blustery winds gusting up to 46km/h to sunshine-filled rides, it’s been a mix of challenge and fun out on the coast.

Some highlights from recent rides:
• Unforgettable mornings with dolphins spotted and whales breaching at Nobbys! 🐬🐋
• Busy sessions at Swansea with regulars and new “passer-by” passengers 🚲, we even got to see the Swansea Bridge open!
• Special first-time experiences for a 40-year local, finally riding along the breakwall with his daughter ❤️
• Consistently great vibes across all our locations 🎉
• We even got a “15/10” rating (we’ll take it 😄)

Thanks to everyone who rode with us, shared a smile, and made these days so memorable.
