Fantastic to see Kate Marshall continuing the fight for paid Reproductive Health Leave in her new role at the HSU!

National Senior Assistant Secretary Kate Marshall is only day two in the new role and isn't wasting any time pushing for improved working conditions for all Australians. Today Kate spoke at the Senate Committee hearing on issues related to menopause and perimenopause.

When asked why we were broadening the HSU's campaign to ‘Reproductive Health Leave’ as opposed to just menopause/perimenopause leave, Kate had this to say:

“We know that menopause isn’t the only reason why women take a substantive amount of time off work - people were taking leave for things like IVF, endometriosis, polycystic o***y syndrome - and we also went even broader, the HSU policy also covers men’s reproductive health, so things like vasectomies, prostate checks."

"We really wanted to level the playing field and ensure that everyone’s reproductive health was being cared for without loss of pay and entitlements.”

It's great to see some familiar HACSU faces at the 40 year anniversary celebration for the Anna Stewart Memorial Project!

Here's to many more years of strong women unionists! 💥

ASMP 40 Year Anniversary Celebration:
Last week we celebrated the 40 Year Anniversary of the Anna Stewart Memorial Project in Victoria. More than 1000 women have completed the project over the past 40 years with some going on to become secretaries and leaders in their unions. Anna Stewart was a trailblaiser feminist and unionist who tragically died aged 36, her legacy has been memorialised through the project and the women who have completed it.

It's throwback Thursday and as we approach International Women's Day, we've been thinking about this great 2021 article from Wil Stracke about the history of women workers in Victoria!

We used to acknowledge the day as International Working Women’s Day, but no longer.

Join us for the Union Women Stay Out — raising money and awareness for women experiencing homelessness!

The superannuation gender pay gap is real, and it's pushing older women into homelessness. On International Working Women’s Day 2024, union women are taking a stand against this. Stay out with us, raise funds, and make a difference!

We will be staying out at Victorian Trades Hall Council with the AMWU Victoria, CFMEU Vic-Tas and McAuley to raise money and awareness for women experiencing homelessness. More specifically, we'll be raising awareness about the superannuation gender pay gap and how this is a major driver of increasing numbers of women becoming homeless.
