We’re pleased to share that the Commonwealth Home Support Programme transition to Support at Home has been extended to 2029 providing greater certainty for CHSP services and the people who rely on them.

For Sutherland Food Services, this means we can continue our focus on what matters most — **providing nutritious meals, connection and support to older people across the Sutherland Shire.

Our meal service plays an important role in helping older people remain independent, healthy and connected in their own homes.

We know there has been considerable uncertainty around the future of CHSP and the transition to Support at Home. This extension provides valuable breathing space for providers, volunteers and, most importantly, our customers.

We’ll continue to keep our customers and community updated as further information becomes available.

Here’s to continuing to deliver good food, good health and good connections in our community!

The CHSP has been extended from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2027.

Your Safety at Home Matters

At Sutherland Food Services, we are committed to supporting not only your nutritional wellbeing but also your safety and independence at home.

As part of this commitment, we would like to share information about a valuable free service offered by Fire and Rescue NSW.

Free Home Fire Safety Visits
Fire and Rescue NSW offers free Home Fire Safety Visits to help ensure residents are protected by working smoke alarms.
During a visit, firefighters will:
• Check that smoke alarms are installed and working correctly.
• Replace smoke alarm batteries if required.
• Install a long-life battery-powered smoke alarm free of charge if one is not already installed.
• Provide practical fire safety advice tailored to your home.
This service is particularly beneficial for:
• Older people aged 65 years and over.
• People living alone.
• Individuals with mobility or health concerns.
• Anyone who may need assistance maintaining smoke alarms.

Why Smoke Alarms Are Important
A working smoke alarm provides early warning in the event of a fire, giving you valuable time to respond safely. Smoke alarms are one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your home.

How to Request a Free Visit
You can request a Home Fire Safety Visit by contacting Fire and Rescue NSW directly or by visiting their website:

A safety visit can assist in helping you reduce the risk of an accidental fire in the home and safely escape it.

As part of National Volunteer Week we would like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to our incredible volunteer delivery team.

Rain, hail or shine, our volunteers are out on the road delivering meals, friendly smiles and caring conversations to our customers throughout the community.

What may seem like a simple meal delivery often means so much more — a welfare check, a moment of connection, and reassurance that someone cares.

Your kindness, dedication and generosity make a real difference every single day, and we are so grateful for everything you do.

Thank you for being the heart of our service and helping us support older members of our community to remain independent at home.

The Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing, will officially announce today that support with showering, dressing and continence management will move into the 'Clinical Care' category of Support at Home, fully removing co-contributions under the Support at Home program. These changes will be effective from 1 October 2026.

Older Australians will no longer face out-of-pocket costs for ‘essential personal care’. This means that these essential services will be fully funded by government.

If you have a Support at Home Package, we recommend discussing with our package provider.
