Our chefs prepare healthy meals while our volunteers deliver each healthy meal to homes across the Sutherland Shire and offer support to those who need it.

The Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing, will officially announce today that support with showering, dressing and continence management will move into the 'Clinical Care' category of Support at Home, fully removing co-contributions under the Support at Home program. These changes will be effective from 1 October 2026.

Older Australians will no longer face out-of-pocket costs for ‘essential personal care’. This means that these essential services will be fully funded by government.

If you have a Support at Home Package, we recommend discussing with our package provider.

There’s a lot happening in aged care right now, and we want to keep our community informed.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme continues to play a vital role in helping older Australians stay independent at home — and the good news is it has been extended through to 2027 while broader reforms are rolled out.

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ No immediate changes to services - Commonwealth Home Support will continue as usual for now.

✅ Transition ahead – CHSP is expected to gradually move into the new “Support at Home” program from 2027.

✅ New Aged Care Act – Since November 2025, all clients need to be registered with My Aged Care and have an assessment in place.

There’s also ongoing national discussion about how these reforms will impact services and clients, particularly around assessments and funding levels.

What this means for you:

Right now, it’s business as usual — but the sector is evolving, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Despite rising fuel costs and added pressures, their dedication, kindness and commitment to supporting vulnerable members of our community never wavers.

Celebrating Seniors Week in the Sutherland Shire

As part of NSW Seniors Festival, we were delighted to host a special Nutrition and Healthy Eating Session at Kirrawee Library in collaboration with Sutherland Shire Council.

Our wonderful chef and nutritionist Sylvia Jersek shared practical advice on how older Australians can support their health and wellbeing through good nutrition. Participants enjoyed learning about balanced meals, simple ways to boost nutrition at home, and the important role food plays in staying active and independent.

It was fantastic to see so many members of the community come together to learn, connect and celebrate Seniors Week. Thank you to everyone who attended and to Sutherland Shire Council for supporting this wonderful initiative.

Nutrition Matters – And So Does Quality 🍽️

The Australian Government has introduced stronger reforms under the Aged Care Act 2024, placing a clear focus on improving nutrition standards for older Australians receiving care at home.

These reforms recognise something we’ve always believed — good nutrition is essential for strength, independence and overall wellbeing as we age.

At Sutherland Food Services we are proud to be taking this a step further. We already source our meals from approved providers whose menus are reviewed by qualified dietitians. We will soon be
engaging an independent Accredited Practising Dietitian to review our entire menu.

This means our meals will be externally assessed to ensure they are:

• Nutritionally appropriate for older people
• Appetising and enjoyable
• Aligned with evidence-based practice
• Consistent with the new Government standards

While not all commercial meal providers operate under these aged care regulatory requirements, we choose to meet – and exceed – them.

Because for us, it’s not just about delivering a meal.
It’s about delivering confidence, safety and quality to our community.

We are committed to staying ahead of reforms and continuing to provide meals you can trust.
