Greyhounds in regional Australia are regularly taken to vets for euthanising when they don't make the grade or their racing days are over. If they are "lucky", they are dumped at the local pound. MAKING A DIFFERENCE
To

date we have endeavoured to rehome as many dogs as possible, within our limited financial and manpower capacity. Due to the very nature of our rescue locations being predominantly regional, the costs incurred for transport and temporary kennelling can be extremely limiting for us financially. 🎩 We present to you: Hawkeye - the finest gentle-hound 🎩

After spending much of his life in kennels, including being kept longer than usual for breeding, Hawkeye has discovered the finer things in life: a comfortable couch, a leisurely constitutional, a reliable meal schedule and the company of good people. He enjoys two gentle walks a day and will perform delighted little kangaroo hops when the lead appears. Hawkeye enjoys the occasional squeaky toy or brief zoomie, followed (naturally) by a lengthy period of dignified recovery 😤

He is also a gentleman who believes in clear communication. He has a repertoire of polite barks, happy groans and deeply theatrical sighs, ensuring you’re never left wondering what he thinks of your punctuality, productivity or breakfast service.

Hawkeye has been introduced to time home alone without stress and could suit a hybrid/working home. A canine companion could also provide company for longer workdays. He is gentle, polite and very conflict avoidant with other dogs.

😴 Hawkeye is looking for a home worthy of a distinguished gentleman: a comfy bed, gentle outings, a predictable routine and humans who appreciate the joy of a snoozy senior. Perhaps he’ll accompany you to the pub, perhaps he’ll snooze beside you while you read. He’s really not fussy, provided he’s included.

✨ Health note: Hawkeye recently had a cancerous tumour surgically removed. The margins were good and our vet is confident there will be no further concerns. A full overview will be provided to prospective adopters. ✨

🎩 Applications are now open for the position of Hawkeye’s forever human. Comfortable furnishings and a willingness to provide snacks highly regarded.

The brindle sisters have officially entered their foster era 💅

One week in, Sadie and Ursula (aka Ula) are discovering that rescued life comes with a lot to learn, and apparently, a few opportunities for mischief.

🤭 Sadie has decided that being a pet is excellent — particularly if it involves stealing things, giving kisses and following her humans everywhere.

🥹 Meanwhile, her sister Ula has had a slightly more cautious introduction to pet life. Other dogs are a bit scary, but she is discovering toys, has a bit of a thing for chewing wooden objects and is slowly becoming more confident in her new world.

That first week can come with nerves, mischief, confusion, couch cuddles, unexpected discoveries and a lot of questions. Our foster carers give their hounds the time and patience to work it all out, and our team is there to support them along the way.

We’ll have a heap of haqihana’s ready to purchase. And we’re right there to help guide you on fitting and adjusting it for your snoot. Got a Haqihana harness but not sure you’ve got the fit quite right? Bring it along and we’ll help you!

🐾 Meet the ambassadogs!
Come say hi and bring a treat (or two, or five?!) and show our ambassadogs some lovin!

Every dollar raised helps greyhounds in need access the care they deserve — from surgeries and rehabilitation to training, foster support and, ultimately, their very own couch to snooze their days away on 🧡

So grab your hound, gather your humans and come join us at the greatest festival of the year🎪

👋 Fresh 👋

Meet Helena (Lena) and Cash, our newest Gumtree Greys arrivals, rescued from Ballarat this weekend!

🚀 Lena, our 4 year old fawn rocket, has 71 races under her belt, with her last race only last month. She wasted absolutely no time embracing freedom, confidently tackling stairs, hopping into an elevator and promptly making herself at home in foster care. She’s full of exuberance, excitement and cheeky shenanigans, and we can already tell she’s going to keep her foster family on their toes!

🥺 Cash, also 4, has raced 43 times and arrived feeling a little more overwhelmed by all the change. He also arrived with a bit of a sore nose (which we will keep an eye on). But a bath, some freedom nuggets and a few pats later, this handsome boy was completely won over. He’s a gentle, smoochy boy who apparently believes every red light is an excellent opportunity to request pats — and we’re predicting those fancy ears are going to turn some heads! 😍

Freedom nuggets were a HUGE hit. Lena even launched a full scale investigation of the entire car to make sure we hadn’t hidden any from her. Cash, thankfully, tolerated Lena’s antics like a gentleman 🧡

A huge round of a paws to their wonderful foster carers for opening their homes and helping these two navigate their first steps into freedom, and to our transport vollie, Courtney, for making the trek out to Ballarat!

Welcome to the good life, Lena & Cash. We can’t wait to watch you thrive ✨

🤷‍♀️Take a guess! What do you think this number represents?

❌ It’s not how many greyhounds we’ve rescued.
❌ It’s not how many freedom nuggies our rescue houndies have consumed.
❌ It’s not how many kilometres our volunteers have driven.
❌ It’s not even our fundraising goal!

This is the total amount we’ve spent on vet bills in just ONE year - $47,124.

When we rescue a greyhound, they can need anything from routine vet care (like desexing and vaccinations) to emergency treatment, surgery and ongoing medical support. Those costs add up FAST, and every dollar we receive from donations is often put towards vet care, which means more money available to help the next hound who needs us.

This is exactly why we need your vote to win a share of Hound-Tees Dolly’s Fund Community Grants.
