Today is international Earth Day. Its theme is "Our Power, Our Planet.”
Our people in the Girringun region have always known that caring for Country is central to our culture and central to our identity. Process Unite wants to put culture and lore back at the core of caring for Country.

We must unite in order to realise our true power in caring for the earth.
We are stronger together. ❤️💛🖤

“White fella law - you can change that. But not Black fella lore. That’s our lore... ”
Chris Kennedy, Girramay Traditional Owner, and Girringun Board director, was speaking during the Process Unite session at the recent RNTBC and Traditional Owners forum in Cardwell.

We want to put culture and lore back at the core of caring for Country through self-determination. 👣👣👣

Process Unite will be seeking a comprehensive settlement on behalf of all participating Traditional Owner groups in the Girringun region, to ensure that happens.
However, it will only happen if we stick together with the glue that keeps us together – our unity.
We are stronger together. ❤️💛🖤

Our Founding Elders will always guide us. ❤️💛🖤

Warning. This post contains images of Aboriginal people who have passed away. It has been shared with the blessings of their families.
In 1994, these Founding Elders met at Five Mile. Their vision for a united voice led to Girringun being instrumental in negotiating better land and sea management outcomes for not only the nine member groups’ lands and seas, but also to other Traditional Owner groups looking to their own interests in their lands and seas.
From left are Uncle Trevor Pryor, Uncle Tommy Murray, Uncle Arthur Clumpoint, Uncle Jack Cashmere, Uncle Ronnie Henry, Uncle Davey Lawrence, Uncle Douggie Tanna, Uncle Hector Fred and Uncle Monty Pryor.
Process Unite seeks to continue their vision. We are stronger together 🖤💛❤️

The Elders that started this. They had the vision…
Social media was never part of that original vision but sharing the Process Unite story to make sure as many people as possible knew about it, has always been important.
Now social media is central to sharing our story.

“There is no risk to this… we need to get together.
We shouldn’t be 'going it alone'. Process Unite really does emphasise that. It’s working together for the benefit of everybody.”
❤️💛🖤
Senior Jirrbal Elder, Uncle Kurt Noble, was talking during the Process Unite session at the recent Girringun RNTBC and Traditional Owner Forum. He encouraged everyone to support the process as we work through Stage Two towards self-determination.
We are stronger together. 👣🖤👣

A landmark decision in the NSW Land and Environment Court could revolutionise how Traditional Owners are compensated after cultural harm.

NSW Forestry Corporation has been sentenced after illegally logging nine trees at Wild Cattle Creek State Forest in 2020.

Instead of receiving a fine, Yurruungga Aboriginal Corporation will receive $450,000 through a restorative justice process.

According to the Director of First Nations with the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO), Jonathon Captain-Webb, the decision to apply the restorative justice process was "significant and rare".

"This is one of the first times that we've seen restorative justice applied in an environmental context," Mr Captain-Webb said.

"It acknowledges that a fine is not the most appropriate way to deliver justice.

"These funds are being directed to an Aboriginal organisation to support the healing and the remediation of that country, instead of money simply going into government revenue."

Mr Captain-Web said the process would be accessed by First Nations groups across the country, now that the judgment had been entered into common law.

Traditional owners say a $450,000 fine will not replace the six centuries-old giant trees illegally felled by NSW Forestry Corporation.
