⁉️⁉️ Did you know that you should NOT throw your old bank card away in your household rubbish or recyclables???

🚯 Traditional bank cards are a complex mix of PVC plastic, metal EMV chips, magnetic strips and internal antennas which is not suitable for general plastic recycling.

🚯 When we receive old, expired or cancelled cards we have to follow strict policies designed to balance absolute data security with environmental responsibility.

🚯 First we immediately manually shred or cut the cards to destroy the EMV chip, the magnetic strip and your printed card number - this ensures the card data is completely unrecoverable and ensures full data protection compliance.

🚯 The shredded card fragments are then collected from us and transported to a secure specialised facility where the metals (from chips and antennas) are separated from the plastic.

🚯 The raw PVC plastic is then melted down into pellets or powders. This material is then "downcycled" into industrial items that do not require medical grade plastics.

🚯 If you choose not to drop your old card back to the bank, we advise you to -

💳 Demolish the Chip - Use scissors to cut directly through the metal chip or use a hammer to shatter it.

💳 Cut into Pieces - Cut through the card numbers, name or signature strip and CVV code.

💳 Divide and Dispose - Put the cut up pieces into separate rubbish bins over a couple of weeks so an identity thief could never find all the pieces together in your household rubbish.

Our ~ Friendship Day ~ at Michael Tichbon park Gelorup in the Shire of Capel was a great success.
Well attended by our CWA Branch members Cori, Christina, Toni, Rosina, Susan and others, Donna Brown from Capel Landcare and the lordship himself Michael Tichbon - Shire Freeman who started up Capel Landcare and a life member and his carer Kaye, Margaret Smith OAM & Shire Freeman and historian of Gelorup, Terri Sharp and her family members, Vicky from GeoCatch of which governs the Geographe Bay waterways from Yallingup to 5 mile Brook in Gelorup, Bill Dear from Capel Landcare, Kelvin from Gelorup a long time MT park carer.
Speeches and introductions where we learnt the history of the park and how Capel Landcare are the volunteers that look after the MT park, followed by a delicious spread of shared food and hot cuppas for afternoon tea.
Then went for a guided tour with Donna and Bill explaining all the different native flora species while we took photos of the flowers.
Came back for another feed and cuppa, sitting while enjoying the relaxing surroundings and listening to the magical plentiful birdsong 🎼🐦‍⬛
Then Donna gave out a special gift to everyone of Michael’s poster of all the flora species that are in the Shire of Capel.
Then a surprise acknowledgment gifts to Terri, Rosina and Vicky for their advocacy for the environment and Shire work.
Another valuable event and thank you to all those involved.

Thank you to Community Bank Capel Bendigo for our grant cheque of $1,000 we received from your famous and fun ~ Pitch Night ~ event.
This will go towards our special project of 2x blue park benches that will be made by the Capel Mens Shed.
Also the name plaques that will be placed on them.
So people can take a load off and rest awhile, providing an opportunity to connect with others.
We are very grateful of the very caring community collaboration.

Another enjoyable Branch Birthday Brunch for the month of September, a celebration for our Branch member Robynne.
At Hello Duck in Bunbury, somewhere different, first time visiting for some members and closer to Robynne’s home.
But the bonus was they were open for our Monday Kings Birthday long weekend and which happens to be Robynne’s actual day of birthday.
Delicious food and drinks.
We cherish our fun and friendship catch ups.
Thank you Susan for organising the gift of beautiful flowers and Toni for the birthday card we all signed.

💜🤍 From Koorda to the AFL Grand Final — CWA is cheering Freo on! 🤍💜

Congratulations to Justin Longmuir on being named Senior AFL Coach of the Year for 2026 — a wonderful recognition ahead of Saturday’s Grand Final!

As the Fremantle Dockers prepare for the big game, we’re sending our very best wishes to Justin and the team.

Justin’s grandmother, Pat Longmuir, was a much-loved member of our Koorda branch for 73 years, right up until her passing the week before the finals began.

We know Pat would have been cheering the Dockers on, and we will be cheering the boys on for her!
