Talia here. Today's project for Hugh and me: cleaning a termite nest out of our cabin. The amazing thing about these structures is that they sprang up on the inside and outside of the cabin walls in a month or less.
That's the thing about living in the rainforest - it grudgingly allows you to live there, while constantly trying to re-establish dominance by overgrowing paths with vines, sending emissaries of various species of wildlife into your living areas and rotting anything you build almost as fast as you can build it.

A big day for the station today - after five plus years of casual neglect, the tank to our composting toilet system is being professionally suctioned. (We were originally going to do it the old-fashioned way, by shovelling the poo into wheelbarrows and carting it off to the forest, but when we opened the access hatch on the tank, a river of brown sludge came spilling out. It was definitely a "Who you gonna call?") moment.
