Canungra RFB would like to advise all members of our community to seriously consider whether it is necessary to light any fires at this time given the extremely dry conditions.
If it is absolutely necessary to light a fire some simple preparation can make all the difference.
Ensure you have cleared around the area, have an adequate source of water ready to extinguish the fire, supervise the fire until it is totally extinguished, have notified your neighbours so they are not alarmed when they see/smell smoke and most importantly you have considered the weather forecast. Wind changes and gusts cause most fires to spread.
The worst case scenario is a fire you have lit escapes, endangering your family, neighbours and our community. You will be held responsible.
If you’re planning to light any fires that are over 2 metres in any direction, that's length, width, height, make sure you obtain a permit to light a fire and check local conditions prior to lighting up.
