MND Victoria welcome the Australian Government’s commitment to prioritise people living with MND in both the NDIS and Aged Care systems.

MND Victoria, MND Australia, and the State Associations have been actively engaging with policy-makers to protect the NDIS priority pathway and improve the Aged Care System for people living with MND.

The Australian Government announced that people living with MND aged 65 and over will automatically be classified as "urgent" priority after being assessed for the Support at Home program.

The Government has also committed to protecting the NDIS MND Priority Pathway, which gives people living with MND faster access to assessments, funding and reassessments when needs change.

To the many people we support who have shared their stories with us, the media, and their local politicians: thank you. Each of these actions have contributed to this change.

We will continue advocating for all people living with MND to receive the best care possible πŸ’™

Riley was 34 years old when he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

He and his wife, Stacey, were excitedly making a 5 and 10 year plan. They imagined a full life with their two little kids, a 4 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. A life with a future.

Then, he was diagnosed with MND.

Please donate today so people like Riley can make the most of their time with their families πŸ’™ www.mnd.org.au/care-matters

Last week, during National Volunteer Week, we held our 2026 Volunteer Seminar, bringing together an amazing group of volunteers who generously give their time to support people living with MND, their families, and wider the community.

The day was a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn, share experiences, and celebrate the incredible impact our volunteers make every single day.

Throughout the day, volunteers participated in a range of engaging and insightful sessions, including Victoria Tull presenting on β€œThe Narrative Behind the Numbers,” Beth leading a session on volunteer burnout and wellbeing, and Bel sharing communication strategies and tips. Volunteers also received an organisation update from Jo Whitehouse and had the opportunity to meet and hear from our new CEO, Mary-Jane Stolp.

Volunteers also had the opportunity to venture around the office and connect with different teams to learn more about all aspects of the organisation and the important roles each area plays in bringing the organisation together. Service Awards were also awarded to the volunteers who have hit milestones volunteering with MND Victoria!

Thank you again to our incredible volunteers πŸ’™

MND Victoria is proud to launch our Genetic Counselling Service, made possible by the generosity of attendees and supporters of the annual MND Charity Superball.

Even without a family history, about 20% of people with MND have an underlying genetic variant. Identifying a variant may enable these people to access clinical trials or targeted treatments.

Genetic Counselling helps grow understanding of personal and family risk, and supports exploring testing options and next steps. However, public genetic services in Victoria are under resources and with long wait times β€” time many people don't have.

Funding from the MND Charity Superball has enabled a 12-month pilot Genetic Counselling Service, delivered through a collaboration between MND Victoria and Monash Genetics. It will be delivered free of charge, statewide, and via telehealth or in-person appointments.

Help sustain this service by attending or supporting the 2026 MND Charity Superball ensuring ongoing access to genetic counselling through this important initiative.
