Last Thursday, the Nulsen team came together to celebrate Oktoberfest!

Everyone brought along a dish to share, creating our very own Nulsen version of a German feast, with plenty of sausages, sauerkrauts, pork hocks and more. 🍽️

There also Oktoberfest-themed games planned, including a trivia quiz about Oktoberfest, Masskrugstemmen ("b**r" holding contest), and a challenge to guess how many pretzels were in the jar! 🥨 Winners got a Lebkuchenherz (a ginormous Gingerbread Heart).

It was a great opportunity for everyone to learn a little more about German culture, while sharing laughs, good food and spending quality time together.

Earlier this month, we farewelled Sharleen Chilvers after many years of outstanding service to Nulsen.

From supporting residents and families to leading teams across the organisation, Sharleen's work, compassion, and leadership have left a lasting impact on the Nulsen community.

We sincerely thank her for her incredible contribution and wish her all the best as she enjoys her well-deserved retirement. While we will miss her greatly, we feel privileged to have shared this journey with her and are so grateful for the positive difference she has made in the lives of so many people.

Sharleen, thank you for everything. Once part of the Nulsen family, always part of the Nulsen family. 💙😊

With winter on its way out, the first signs of spring are beginning to pop up all around us. Recently, Steph bundled up in her furry jacket, possibly for the last time this year, and set off on a visit to Kings Park and Botanic Garden. The flowers were just starting to bloom, offering a sneak peek of the colourful season ahead. It definitely won't be long before the park will be bursting with springtime colour!

David celebrated his 37th birthday last month! He started the day with a trip to the shops, where he enjoyed hot chips and a Boost juice before treating himself to a special birthday present. Later, family and friends gathered at his home for afternoon tea and a mini birthday party. 🎉✨

The celebrations continued the following weekend when David and support worker Rachel visited Scitech. There, David learned about DNA and how it is unique to each species. Picking it up quickly, he created the DNA of an octopus! The pair also enjoyed a science show on convection and conduction before David took the controls of a submarine in the ocean exhibit and explored the underwater world. 🌊🧬

For many of us, it's easy to overlook how communication helps us access the good things in life and creates possibilities every day. For some people, however, expressing themselves may not be as simple as speaking aloud.

This Speech Pathology Week, we're celebrating the theme "Communication Creates Possibility" and recognising the many ways communication helps people connect, make choices, build relationships, and participate in everyday life.

For Janice, her communication device supports her to express herself, connect with friends and family, and make the choices that matter most to her. This independence would not be possible without the dedication and expertise of speech pathologists, who support people to communicate in a variety of ways.
