Call 132 500 for SES assistance
In a life threatening emergency call 000

When natural disaster strikes or emergency situations arise, our SES volunteers are ready to assist the community with a wide range of services. This can involve emergency repairs to buildings, removing fallen trees, ferrying cargo and passengers in flood waters, and assisting with air search observations, land search, flood water rescue and cliff rescue. Not all of our volunteers are engaged in t

he front line of emergency response, many work diligently behind the scenes in radio or computer operators, in administration or incident control, planning and logistics. UNIT HISTORY
Canning State Emergency Service was inaugurated in 1984. From humble beginnings at the Canning Town Hall in George Street, the unit has evolved considerable over the years - finally becoming Canning South Perth SES Unit in the early 90s. And while the next phase of our history may well be a change of location, the Volunteers would like to thank the City of Canning and the City of South Perth for their continued support over the last 30 plus years. Without it we wouldn’t be here today supporting our local communities when they need it the most.

Your sign that there's some wet weather on the way! 😲⛈️

A cold front is expected to bring heavy rain, possible thunderstorms and strong winds across the Perth Metro and South West from late Wednesday, with another potentially stronger front forecast for Sunday.

Some areas in the South West could see up to 50mm of rain, with the Perth Metro potentially copping around 30mm. Areas between Gingin and Albany could also see localised flooding over roads and even if you reckon your 4WD could make it through, it's not worth the risk.

Now's a good time to bring in or tie down loose outdoor items and be sure to take extra care on the roads and keep an eye out for hazards like fallen trees and downed power lines during and after the storm.

Don't get caught off guard by the wet weather - download the Emergency WA App to stay across what's happening near you 📲

As we expecting some interesting weather (courtesy of TC Narelle 🌀) please take the time to clear your gutters, trim loose branches 🌳 and secure loose items (flying trampolines are impressive but NOT cool).

WA… this one’s really ramping up 😲🌪️

Cyclone Narelle is now a Category 2 system, tracking fast west-southwest offshore along the Pilbara coast towards Exmouth.

The Bureau says Narelle is a large system and is expected to intensify to a Category 3 overnight before turning south and potentially strengthening further to a Category 4 on Thursday, ahead of passing the North West Cape (including Exmouth) on Friday.

But Narelle’s exact path and intensity at crossing remain uncertain, with the system potentially crossing anywhere from Exmouth as a Category 4 to as far south as Jurien Bay as a Category 2.

Impacts are starting to build, with gales along the Pilbara coast and the potential for severe impacts along the far western Pilbara coast late Thursday, extending south towards Denham as the system turns on Friday, along with dangerous storm tide between Exmouth and Denham bringing large waves, coastal erosion and flooding of low-lying areas.

From Saturday, Narelle is expected to move south-southeast, spreading heavy rain and stormy conditions through the Central West, including Perth, with the potential for damaging winds, and further inland and south across the South West Land Division.

One thing’s for sure… now is the time to prepare:
✅ Review your emergency plan
✅ Pack an emergency kit including a portable battery-operated radio, torch, spare batteries, mobile phone and charger, first aid kit, prescription medication and enough food and water for 5–7 days - pets included 🐶
✅ Secure loose items around your property – tie down trampolines so they don’t end up in your neighbour’s yard 🤦‍♂️
✅ Travellers and tourists – reconsider travel to the warning area

And do emergency services a favour will ya... stay well clear of floodwaters! Even if you think your trusty 4WD can handle it, it’s not worth the risk 🚙
