Understanding your rights, responsibilities and the policies that help keep sport safe shouldn't depend on your reading ability, language background or level of education.

The release of Easy English versions of the National Integrity Framework Policies is an important step towards making Australian sport more inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Developed by the Australian Sporting Alliance for People with a Disability (ASAPD), these resources help people with intellectual or cognitive impairments, lower literacy levels, and those who speak English as an additional language better understand the policies that support safe, fair and welcoming sporting environments.

Good governance isn't just about having policies. It's about ensuring people can access, understand and engage with them.

This is a positive example of how the sport sector can remove barriers and make participation more inclusive for all Australians.

Sport should be a place where people feel safe, supported and respected, both on and off the field.

The inaugural Online Safety in Sport Summit brought together leaders from across sport, government, law enforcement and the technology sector to address the growing impact of online abuse in Australian sport.

Importantly, the discussion extended beyond elite sport, recognising the effect online harm is having across community and grassroots environments, particularly for young people.

As sport continues to evolve in digital spaces, safeguarding participants must evolve with it.

CAS supports initiatives that strengthen education, collaboration and practical support for sporting organisations navigating these challenges.

Volunteers are the foundation of Australian sport.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re joining the Australian Sports Commission in recognising the people who keep sport moving in communities across the country through the 3 Cheers for Volunteers initiative.

Whether it’s the coach at a local club, the committee member behind the scenes, the scorer, official, team manager or event volunteer, sport in Australia simply would not function without volunteers.

Their contribution stretches from grassroots participation through to major international events.

At the recent AFC Women's Asian Cup, more than 1,200 volunteers helped deliver the highest attended tournament in the competition’s history, welcoming teams and fans from across Asia.

Volunteers will also play a critical role at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, continuing a tradition that has been part of every Olympic and Paralympic Games since London 1948.

The ASC’s Volunteer Map shines a light on the people making a difference in sporting communities across Australia — from metropolitan clubs to regional and remote towns.

We encourage everyone involved in sport to take a moment this week to recognise the volunteers who make participation possible.

Visit the Volunteer Map and share the story of someone making a difference in your community.

Community sport plays an important role in creating connection, confidence and belonging for young Australians. Ensuring those environments are inclusive and accessible is critical to growing participation across the sector.

Researchers at The University of Queensland (UQ) have developed an online training program to help community coaches better support children with autism in grassroots sport, responding to ongoing challenges around participation and accessibility.

Initiatives like this highlight the important role coaches, clubs and volunteers play in shaping positive sporting experiences for all Australians, regardless of background or ability.

As the sector continues to focus on participation, inclusion and long-term community impact, practical tools and education programs like these will become increasingly important.

Investment in sport infrastructure continues to play a critical role in strengthening participation and performance pathways across Australia.

The completion of a $12.5 million upgrade at the Gold Coast Recreation Precinct adds new accommodation, training facilities and capacity for athletes, schools and community groups.

As the sector looks ahead to Brisbane 2032, projects like this highlight the importance of investing beyond major venues, supporting the environments where participation begins and pathways are built.

Yesterday marked the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, a global reminder of the role sport plays in building stronger, more connected communities.

This year’s theme, “Sport: Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers”, reflects the ability of sport to bring people together, promote inclusion and create positive social outcomes.

Across Australia, sport continues to support participation, wellbeing and community connection at every level.

It’s a simple idea, but an important one, sport matters.
