The afternoon of the last day of the convention was jam packed with Jarryd Bailey, Hugh Grant, Sean Hartley and Matt Reel all on stage demonstrating together
They shared great insight and knowledge as they worked on their individual trees, sharing what they were doing and why every step of the way
Then they sat down for a panel discussion with questions from the floor
They shared their vision for how to progress bonsai in Australia as well as describing their own bonsai journeys
Thanks to the wonderful team of demonstrators for making the 38th AABC convention a great success 🌿

The 38th AABC National Bonsai Convention will be held in Hobart from May 1-4 this year.
A new initiative introduced at this convention will be the AABC NEW STYLIST AWARD competition.
We hope for this event to form part of future conventions from this one on.
This competition is open to club members of member clubs of AABC who will register to attend the conventions.
They do not have to be new to Bonsai, but would be new to the sharing of technique and knowledge at their local club.
This will be an up to 3 hour competition where registered participants will design a tree in their own image and have the outcome voted on by the delegates of the conventions.
The ‘winner’ will receive the tree designed plus a framed certificate from that years convention committee and AABC.
Full details and guidelines have been sent to all member clubs and should have been distributed to their membership list.
As a club, you are free to sponsor one or more of your members to participate in this competition.
I hope this will be well attended a be a successful part of identifying new talent to contribute to the improvement of Bonsai in Australia. It is hoped to also use this as a way to grow the list of visiting tutors available under the VTP system of AABC.
Please ask your club for more details, or contact AABC for the registration form by emailing [email protected]
