Mentoring Program 2026 Update | This Week’s Session: Networking 💛
This week our cohort dove into one of the most powerful tools for career growth, networking.
We explored what networking really is, why it matters, and how to approach it with purpose and confidence. The session unpacked practical, real‑world strategies our mentees can start using immediately.
Key highlights from the night:
- We defined networking, its purpose, and the value it brings to career development
- Discussed how to build and strengthen networking skills
- Broke into small groups to identify networking opportunities, everything from Healthy Tradie yoga, to dedicated industry networking events, to formal conferences
- Mentees developed and refined their elevator pitches
- Everyone was encouraged to use LinkedIn to expand their networks, especially by connecting with fellow program participants
📸 We’ve uploaded photos from the session, take a look and see the energy in the room.
Thanks as always to SHAPE Australia for generously hosting us in their offices, Gold Sponsors Infrastructure Canberra and Multiplex, and our learning partner Wisdom Learning - RTO 88062

✨ NAWIC ACT Male Allies Panel – Event Wrap‑Up
What an energising and genuinely thought‑provoking evening. Our Male Allies Panel brought together voices from across the construction industry to talk openly about allyship, accountability, and the practical actions that create safer, more equitable workplaces.
Across the room, one theme kept surfacing: allyship is a skill, not a title. It’s built through listening, speaking up, sharing the load, and using influence with intention. Our panel reminded us that progress happens when leaders model the behaviour they want to see, consistently, visibly, and without waiting to be asked.
Key reflections from the night:
- Allyship is active — it shows up in everyday decisions, not just big moments.
- Courage matters — calling out bias and inequity is uncomfortable, but necessary.
- Representation is everyone’s responsibility — men have a powerful role in shifting culture.
- Learning never stops — good allies stay curious, stay accountable, and stay engaged.
Thank you to our panel members for their honesty, insight, and leadership, and to everyone who joined us for the conversation. Your questions, perspectives, and willingness to lean in made the night what it was.
