CWA's annual Agriculture and Environment field trip in Coonabarabran gave 40 plus members and spouses a two day magical taste of The Warrumbungles, the stars and planets, and Pilliga State Forrest. Our own Branch officer Miriam will share her excellent photos soon. I walked a different track to the Scupltures in the Scrub, and these are some of my memories. The flowers include native orchids, flannel flower, very young sheoak and prostanthera (I think.)
Penelope and her team from State A&E were wonderful hosts.

Thank you to Events ACT, Floriade, and everyone who stopped by to watch our scone‑making demonstration and learn how the CWA is truly “more than scones”.
We had such an enjoyable day sharing skills, stories, and plenty of good humour with you all.

A few of us at Canberra Branch enjoyed the exhibition and tour of Arthur Boyd’s Tapestries yesterday depicting the life of St Francis of Assisi. This amazing exhibition is at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra until 18 October 2026, with free tours at 10.30am and 1pm. It’s all free and learning about how these amazing works of art were made was amazing. We highly recommend!

🍰 Celebrate International Cake Day – Monday 20 July 2026! 🍰

International Cake Day is just around the corner, and what better excuse to get baking! Whip up a favourite cake over the weekend or on Monday, and share a photo with us — we’d love to see your creations.

While you’re in the kitchen, take a moment to explore The Land Cookery Competition, with judging to be held in May 2027 at the CWA of NSW 2027 State Conference in Canberra. There are wonderful sections for all skill levels, from rich fruit cakes and butter cakes to slices, jams and junior categories.

Full details of The Land Cookery competition and the official schedule are available here:
https://www.cwaofnsw.org.au/Web/Web/Committees/The-Land-Cookery.aspx

It’s the perfect time to start practising — May 2027 will be here before we know it!

Happy baking, Canberra CWA friends! 🍰✨
