Anglicare Australia's Mission is to engage with all Australians to create communities of resilience, hope and justice. Our services are delivered to one in 26 Australians, in partnership with them and the communities they live in. Our 36 Anglicare agencies work with over 13,000 staff and 9,000 volunteers to service over 940,000 people all over Australia.

The results are in, and they are dire.

Anglicare Australia’s Rental Affordability Snapshot is out today.

Across the country, there are virtually no affordable rentals for people on JobSeeker or Youth Allowance. Even full-time workers are being locked out.

This isn’t a short-term shock. It’s the result of years of policy choices - and it’s hurting people in every community.

It doesn’t have to be this way. It’s time to end the tax breaks for investors and start building the affordable rentals Australians need.

Anglicare Australia's latest look at rentals shows the private market effectively does not exist for poorer Australians.

Regional Australians are missing out.

Essential services are still being funded by population size — not by local need. That leaves regional and remote communities falling further behind.

A fair society is one where everyone can live a dignified life, and nobody lives in poverty. Yet in Australia 1 in 7 people and 1 in 6 children struggle to survive in poverty.

Each year, the Anglicare Australia Network supports thousands of people who simply don’t have enough to survive, let alone thrive. Our experience and research show us that Australians do not believe it should be this way.

This is why we believe that to become the society that Australians expect, we need to take real action on poverty.

Regional workers are holding services together — but they’re burning out.

Services are underfunded, short-staffed, and struggling to keep up. Without proper support, more workers will leave and more communities will miss out.

Help should be available in every community.

But people in regional Australia are too often left without the support they need. They deserve the same access to services as those in cities.

“If we can afford billions for those who need it least, we can afford to build homes for those who need them most.”

Our latest research shows investor tax breaks like negative gearing and the Capital Gains Tax discount are fuelling the housing crisis – and set to cost more than $190 billion over the next decade.

That’s money that could build tens of thousands of homes each year, and end our shortfall within a decade.
