๐ฟ Exciting News for Mount Rogers! ๐ฟ
We are thrilled to announce that the Mount Rogers P&C has been awarded a 2026 ACT Communities Climate Action Grant worth more than $29,000 to help bring our Climate-Responsive Naturescape Project to life.
This funding allows us to begin transforming part of the South Oval into a vibrant, biodiverse space designed to work with nature โ capturing and retaining rainwater to support native trees, shrubs, wildlife, and cooler green spaces for our school community.
๐ What Is a Climate-Responsive Naturescape?
Put simply, itโs a nature-based play and learning space designed to respond to the challenges of a changing climate.
The naturescape will help retain rainwater, support biodiversity, increase shade and cooling, and create a more resilient outdoor environment that can better cope with drought, heavy rainfall, storms, cold winters, and rising temperatures.
๐ณ Why Does It Matter?
This project is about so much more than landscaping.
Itโs about creating a space where future generations of Mount Rogers students can:
โจ Play beneath trees and natural shade
โจ Explore and connect with nature
โจ Enjoy cooler outdoor spaces during hotter months
โจ Learn about sustainability and biodiversity firsthand
โจ Build confidence, creativity, resilience, and curiosity through nature-based play
It will support both non-directive play โ climbing, exploring, cubby building, imaginative adventures โ and more structured games and activities too (capture the flag, anyone?)
Nature itself becomes the playground.
๐ค A Community Project
One of the most important parts of this project is that it will be shaped with our community.
We want families, students, staff, neighbours, and community members to be part of the journey as we learn together about climate-adaptive design, sustainable planting, biodiversity, and creating spaces that strengthen both environmental resilience and community connection.
๐ Community Forum
Weโre currently locking in dates for our very first Community Forum โ and weโd love for you to come along and be part of the conversation.
