๐Ÿ“ข REMINDER - All ACT public schools are CLOSED this Thursday 11 June ๐Ÿ“ข

In order to enable industrial action and keep students safe all ACT public schools, including specialist schools and preschools, are CLOSED this Thursday.

The Education Directorate has decided to close schools to students for the day in the interest of student and staff safety.

The Australian Education Union has notified the Education Directorate that its members will take part in protected industrial action on Thursday. We expect a majority of ACT public school staff will participate in the work stoppage, meaning we are unable to confidently plan for safe and appropriate supervision for all students.

Be aware there will be no onsite supervision available for students on Thursday.

If you have any questions or concerns about how this closure impacts your school, please contact your school directly.

We acknowledge that school closures have significant impacts on families and these decisions are not taken lightly. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

๐ŸŒฟ Exciting News for Mount Rogers! ๐ŸŒฟ

We are thrilled to announce that the Mount Rogers P&C has been awarded a 2026 ACT Communities Climate Action Grant worth more than $29,000 to help bring our Climate-Responsive Naturescape Project to life.

This funding allows us to begin transforming part of the South Oval into a vibrant, biodiverse space designed to work with nature โ€” capturing and retaining rainwater to support native trees, shrubs, wildlife, and cooler green spaces for our school community.

๐ŸŒ What Is a Climate-Responsive Naturescape?

Put simply, itโ€™s a nature-based play and learning space designed to respond to the challenges of a changing climate.

The naturescape will help retain rainwater, support biodiversity, increase shade and cooling, and create a more resilient outdoor environment that can better cope with drought, heavy rainfall, storms, cold winters, and rising temperatures.

๐ŸŒณ Why Does It Matter?

This project is about so much more than landscaping.

Itโ€™s about creating a space where future generations of Mount Rogers students can:
โœจ Play beneath trees and natural shade
โœจ Explore and connect with nature
โœจ Enjoy cooler outdoor spaces during hotter months
โœจ Learn about sustainability and biodiversity firsthand
โœจ Build confidence, creativity, resilience, and curiosity through nature-based play

It will support both non-directive play โ€” climbing, exploring, cubby building, imaginative adventures โ€” and more structured games and activities too (capture the flag, anyone?)

Nature itself becomes the playground.

๐Ÿค A Community Project

One of the most important parts of this project is that it will be shaped with our community.

We want families, students, staff, neighbours, and community members to be part of the journey as we learn together about climate-adaptive design, sustainable planting, biodiversity, and creating spaces that strengthen both environmental resilience and community connection.

๐Ÿ—“ Community Forum

Weโ€™re currently locking in dates for our very first Community Forum โ€” and weโ€™d love for you to come along and be part of the conversation.

๐ŸŒฟ Learn more about the project
๐ŸŒฟ Meet the project committee
๐ŸŒฟ Hear about the vision and future plans
๐ŸŒฟ Ask questions
๐ŸŒฟ Share your ideas and feedback
๐ŸŒฟ Help shape this exciting community space together

More details coming soon!

๐Ÿ’š Want to Get Involved?

If you would like to volunteer, contribute ideas, or learn more about the project, please contact P&C President Shannon Butler (pictured at the grant announcement with Suzanne Orr MLA) at:

We canโ€™t wait to bring this vision to life together!
