Crop Swap Underwood St

I am hosting a Crop Swap and Cancer Council Morning Tea combo two Sundays from now, on Sunday 24 May at the Canberra Tannery Underwood St oaks Estate from 11am to 1pm. So bring a mug and some Tim Tams or scones etc, or bring some veggies, fruit, seedlings, cuttings jams or chutneys, and bring along some money to raise funds to support research and treatment of Breast Cancer. WE all know someone that will be affected by this, so it’s important. Last year we raised $1000 but I know we can do better this year. Please share with your friends and family. There is plenty of room and parking for cars. It will be undercover so don’t worry about the weather. I will provide the tea, coffee and Milo. I hope to see you there – this is always a lovely morning

I will be hosting a crop swap on Sunday April 12 (weekend after Easter) at the Canberra Tannery Underwood St Oaks Estate from 11am to 1 pm. The concept is simple. Bring something you grew in your garden or made in your kitchen, place it on the table, chat with others and then take something you like in return. It can be veggies, fruit, seeds, seedlings, cuttings, jams, sauces, pickles, chutneys, herbs, flowers, bulbs, honey, eggs...and much more. I will be bringing worm juice and liquid fertilizer made from banana peels, plus coffee grinds (great for blueberry plants). It's a really fun day. I will provide plunger coffee, tea and milo, plus sage tea (my favourite). The last crop swap 2 weeks ago was the biggest one yet but there is plenty of parking space and it's undercover, so let's make them even bigger! There are lots of people that know a lot about gardening that can give great advice about local gardening. I'd really like these crops swaps to be a place where older generations pass on their knowledge to younger gardeners. So please share the attached flier with anyone you know that enjoys gardening or wants to get into it. If you really feel you don’t have anything to share this time, just come along for the hot or cold beverage and get inspired for next time 😊

Hope you are all enjpying lovely veggies, fruit and other goodies today and this week. I think there is a lot of basil pesto-making going on tonight. :-) I ended up with a lot of mint to make tea, and a lot of veggies. We will make a delicious pakistani recipe for zuchinni curry and maybe stuff one of the bigger ones with mince, fetta and herbs, but feel free to suggest other recipes. Was lvoely to see you all today.

Another reminder about the crop swap this coming Sunday at the Canberra Tannery from 11am to 1 pm. Please share with your friends, neighbours and family and invite them along. Bring something from your garden or that you made in your kitchen. e.g. veggies, fruit, seedlings, cuttings, seeds, jams, sauces, chutney, pickles, eggs, flowers, herbs, preserves...or just your company if you don’t' have anything else. I've got zucchinis and capsicums, and would like some tomatoes 😊
If you bring something in a jar, please label it and if possible, include your name. Sometimes I bring home something delicious but can’t remember who brought it when I want to thank them later.
There is plenty of parking and it is undercover if there are rain showers. I will be providing plunger coffee and cordial.
Sometimes people say they don’t have anything to share. Even a geranium cutting or a bit of rosemary would be great but show up even if you don’t have that. I will “sponsor” you with some herbs :-) This is supposed to be an inclusive event to encourage people to get involved, or to learn more. I have learnt so much about growing things in the veggie garden and enjoy the most delicious food.

I am hosting a Crop Swap on Sunday March 1 from 11am to 1pm at the Canberra Tannery in Underwood St Oaks Estate. See the flier attached for more details. The concept of a crop swap is simple: bring something you grew in your garden, or made in your kitchen, place it on the table and in return take something else that catches your fancy. it can be veggies, fruit, flowers, bulbs, seeds, cuttings, eggs, honey, jams, pickles, chutneys, sauces and so on. it is supposed to be an inclusive event, so even if you feel you have nothing to share that you grew or made, please bring your companionship to share :-)
There are lots of simple ways to get involved:
1. Buy some bananas. Eat the bananas but put the peels in water and bring them along on Sunday. It’s a great liquid fertiliser rich in calcium and magnesium
2. Keep your coffee grinds from your plunger coffee. Great for blue berries.
3. Cut the bases off the spring onions you have in your fridge. Put them in water and watch the roots grow, Bring them along like this or plant them in a pot. You never have pay money for spring onions again.
4. Buy a punnet of lettuce and a bag of potting mix. Cut holes in the bag and just stick the seedlings direct in the potting mix. Keep watered and by the time Crop swap comes around you will have lovely lettuce to share!
5. Bring washed milk carton lids or medication blister packs with you as I will have my Lids4kids Zero Waste Warriors tub with me.
