Powerful images do more than capture a moment — they tell a story.

The Outdoor Council of Australia was proud to support Cancer Council NSW’s recent outdoor industry photo project, celebrating the many ways Australians connect with nature while reinforcing an important message: getting outdoors and being sun safe go hand in hand.

From bushwalking and paddling to camping, outdoor education, recreation and community experiences, the images submitted reflected the joy, diversity and benefits of outdoor participation across Australia.

Congratulations to first place winner Michele Michel, Individual Member of Outdoors NSW & ACT, and highly commended recipients Craig Starling from Scouts Australia, Maddy Bennett from Outdoors Victoria, and Kirsty Curnow from Seek Sista.

Thank you to Cancer Council NSW for supporting this important initiative, and to everyone across the Outdoor Industry who contributed images that help inspire more Australians to get outdoors, more often — safely.

The Outdoor Council of Australia has released the Snow Activities Guidance Note to support outdoor providers, educators, land managers and leaders delivering snow-based experiences during the 2026 winter season. ❄️

Snow activities are an important part of Australia’s Outdoor Industry, from outdoor education programs and guided recreation through to adventure tourism and alpine resort experiences. They also require careful planning, strong leadership, sound judgement and risk management that reflects the specific environment, conditions and participants involved.

This Guidance Note has been released as an interim resource so the industry has something practical to use for the 2026 season, while the full Snow Activities Good Practice Guide is developed through broader industry consultation for release in 2027.

OCA will be seeking feedback from industry throughout the 2026 winter season and into summer 2027 to ensure the future Good Practice Guide reflects real operating contexts across Australia’s alpine and snow environments.

We encourage all organisations involved in snow-based outdoor activities to review the Guidance Note and be part of the consultation process.
