Strathnairn Arts is located on the western fringe of Belconnen, based at a rural property which has been used as an art site since the late 1970s. Over the decades, it has provided children's programs, community art projects and the development of artist studios and facilities. It is a membership based organisation managed by a board, with supporting funding from Arts ACT. For information about me

mbership, artist in residence programs, exhibition applications and facilities, please visit our website. Strathnairn members have access to our facilities including the ceramic kilns, the Foundry, and the paper making facilities. They are also able to hire the Village Hall and the Woolshed at members’ rates. We also provide ongoing use of the facilities to community and art groups. The Village Hall and Woolshed are available for hire in five hour blocks or full day use. Please contact us if you are interested in using the Woolshed, Village Hall or our other facilities with your group. We are dedicated to engaging with our local community to provide public access to art making. Our facilities can also be hired to run workshops or events in. For further information, please see the webpage for the facility you are considering or contact [email protected] or phone 6254 2134 (Thurs - Sat) to speak to our Program coordinator. Strathnairn Arts facilities include:
• An established gallery with a strong nationally recognised program
• Seventeen kilns, including five electric kilns, two gas kilns through to an Olsen wood-fired kiln plus associated furniture
• The only publicly accessible Bronze foundry in Australia
• A fully equipped papermaking facility
• The Woolshed – an Australian archetype providing a space for shows, workshops and events
• Village Hall – a purpose built art space flooded with natural light
• Twenty studios providing working spaces to wide range of professional visual artists
• A unique setting on the rural fringe of Canberra near the Murrumbidgee River where local volunteer dedication to rehabilitating the site has made it a bird hotspot. Our collection of site specific environmental art and sculptures form the basis of our dedicated Sculpture Walk. The Brindabellas provide a dramatic backdrop to the property.

New exhibition next week: Yvonne Poole, Small Works and Scribbly Gums

Inspired by the colours, textures and forms of the Australian environment, this exhibition brings together a selection of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works that reflect on waterways, vegetation and geological formations. Through these varied approaches, Poole captures both the familiarity and shifting moods of the landscape, inviting viewers to experience nature through layered interpretations of place.

Exhibition runs from 3 - 28 June in Homestead Gallery 1 at Strathnairn Arts

Thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday to the opening of Heidi Smith, What Rhymes with Menagerie?

Menagerie is an exhibition of drawings, weavings and paintings that explore themes of collect, capture and cosiness. Menagerie expresses wonder at the natural world whilst holding it out of time and reality. Beyond human, “captured” characters and environments, transform into dense ecosystems. But not in an artificially intelligent manner. More like, settling down after we’ve all rushed onto the ark and are nestling for the long voyage into deep space. Combing each other’s manes, mimicking bird song and hoping for a bright future.

Explore Heidi Smith's world of whimsey and wonder in the Strathnairn Arts Homestead Galleries until May 31.

Now on show in the Strathnairn Arts Homestead Galleries: Heidi Smith, What Rhymes with Menagerie?

Menagerie is a detailed, observance of creatures and plant life. We, unusual and varied, must actively participate, prioritise awareness and kindness, to all living things. Care, make, to feel useful, to remember and remind.

Come and see this beautiful exhibition today or join us for the official opening on Saturday 9 May at 2 pm.

We’re down to less than a week of our 2026 Member’s Exhibition. Today we’re featuring the work of our own shop manager Di Libke and her work The Promise. Come and check out the amazing work of our members today, we’re open until 4 pm.

“This piece is my thoughts on how we use cosmetics and the amount of things we use in the world right now. I call it the promise but it’s like the fountain of youth. They always promise you this, that you’ll have a result from this. Most of my work is found objects. I like to put them together, to make them pleasing. This work is made from an old light fitting, little droppers, a mirror and part of an old clock.”
