UC RAC x UCQC Movie Night Recap π¬π
Last night, UC Refugee Action Club (UC RAC) partnered with the UC Q***r Club (UCQC) for a powerful movie night where we watched Flee β an animated documentary that follows Amin, a q***r Afghan refugee, on his journey from Afghanistan to Denmark.
The film sparked a deeply reflective and moving conversation. Hearing Aminβs story in his own words reminded us how vital it is to talk about refugee experiences β especially in light of recent anti-immigration protests. We were struck by the balance of heaviness and hope in Aminβs narration, and how he chose to reflect on his past with resilience and lightness. The conflicting emotions that come from being a refugee but also being a q***r person from a conservative culture.
Our discussion touched on Australiaβs refugee policies and the importance of engaging young people in these conversations. It reinforced our belief that activism isnβt just about showing up to protests, itβs also about the everyday conversations we have with our peers.
This event was a beautiful reflection of UC RACβs mission: to bring students and young people back into the conversation around refugee action.
Huge shoutout to our friends at UCQC for collaborating with us and opening up their space. We appreciate you, besties! π
