The UN@80 Photo Exhibition was held in Canberra at MoAD on Friday.
The exhibition, marking the United Nations’ 80th Anniversary, showcased more than 200 stories from 193 countries highlighting the many ways in which the world’s most crucial international organisation impacts all our daily lives: supporting peace and security, overseeing regulatory frameworks, providing humanitarian assistance and fostering development, facilitating international conventions on trade, or advancing human rights.

The exhibit was organised by the UN Information Centre and the UNAA, in partnership with DFAT, together with the Permanent Missions of Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland. Miklos Gaspar (UNIC), Brian Gleeson (UNAA) and Angela Robinson (DFAT) shared some of the powerful stories of the impact of the UN at the event, with over 60 diplomats in attendance.

Today we mark the United Nations International Day of Peace a day to reflect on how each of us can contribute to a more peaceful and compassionate world.

Brian Gleeson, President of the United Nations Association of Australia ACT, joined with the United Nations Information Centre Canberra and the Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin in commemorating this day at the Rotary World Peace Bell in Nara Peace Park.

Together, we are reminded that peace is not only the absence of conflict, but the presence of care, kindness and respect. This spirit of unity was powerfully captured in the UN80 drone photo, symbolising our shared commitment to peace. 🇺🇳

The global population has quadrupled in the last century from 2 to 8 billion placing enormous pressure on our planet’s food systems, water supplies, natural ecosystems, and climate. Without action, continued growth threatens to deepen these crises.

This webinar explores peaceful, practical pathways to stabilising and reducing population growth through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Zero Poverty, Zero Hunger, Clean Water, and Climate Action.

Join us to hear from Dr. Jane O’Sullivan, Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Queensland. A leading voice in human ecology and planetary health, Dr. O’Sullivan is co-convenor of The Overpopulation Project and a board member of Sustainable Population Australia. She will unpack the complex links between population, sustainability, and human wellbeing and highlight why ethical, informed action on population is critical for a just and liveable future.
