WEAR IT PURPLE DAY EMPOWERS LGBTQIA. This years theme is ‘Colours of Change’. By wearing purple, Australians demonstrate to rainbow young people that they are celebrated and respected, acknowledging all have the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming.

🚨 Could you be there when a child needs someone most?

Sometimes children need a safe place today.

A warm meal. A clean bed. A calm home. Someone to reassure them that everything will be okay.

Crisis foster carers provide short-term care for children and young people who need immediate safety while longer-term plans are made. It may only be for a few nights, but your kindness can have a lifelong impact.

If you have room in your home and heart, we'd love to talk to you about becoming a crisis foster carer.

💚 Every child deserves to feel safe.

Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day. This day is a time to celebrate the strength and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and to recognize the important role of family, community, and culture in their lives. The 2026 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme is Living Our Truth, honouring the power of truth-telling, the sharing of knowledge across generations and the importance of telling our stories.

Barnardos foster carers Marc and Zach welcomed two siblings, aged 4 and 12, into their home after the boys experienced instability and uncertainty.

Before living with Marc and Zach, the boys were disengaged, struggling socially and lacked positive people to look up to. The 12-year-old especially needed stable male role models, and he found them in his two dads. In just six months their confidence has grown, they’re opening up, and they’re building a strong sense of belonging. This has carried through to other aspects of their lives. The boys are beginning to form strong friendships and are more engaged in their learning.

Marc and Zach are helping the boys stay connected to their Chinese heritage by learning mandarin together, reflecting the care they’ve taken to help the children feel supported and truly at home.

‘Do it,’ says Zach to anyone considering foster care. ‘There’s never a point in your life where you get the chance to change someone’s life in the way this does.’

The couple recently shared their story at the Annual Making Rainbow Families Seminar hosted by our partner Rainbow Families. They are strong advocates for foster care and the positive impact it can have on children.
