Introducing the Soldier On Ambassador Series 💬

A new fortnightly series sharing the personal stories of the people at the heart of Soldier On’s mission - our ambassadors.

We’re proud to launch the series with Jody Hillier, whose connection with Soldier On began by chance and became an important source of support during her transition to civilian life after 25 years in the Royal Australian Air Force.

Jody served a distinguished career, progressing from enlisted ranks to commissioned officer, including deployment to East Timor and international work on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program in the United States.

Her journey is shaped by service, discovery and advocacy, never shying away from challenging assumptions. Today, Jody uses her voice to challenge perceptions of what a veteran looks like and to highlight the importance of visibility, particularly for women veterans.

Through her ambassador role, Jody continues to support veterans and families while encouraging connection, understanding and hope.

Luisa just needed someone to say: ‘We’ll help you through this.’ 💙

After years of supporting her partner through injury and transition from the Army, Luisa felt overwhelmed and alone. Job applications became emotionally exhausting, and rejections chipped away at her confidence.

“There are a lot of hard days,” Luisa shared. “Sometimes I could only focus on getting one thing done that day.”

Thanks to the generosity of Soldier On supporters, Luisa was able to access employment guidance, career mentoring and ongoing encouragement through Soldier On when she needed it most.

“Having that support made a huge difference,” she said.

This EOFY, your tax-deductible donation can help more veterans and families access the support, connection and practical guidance they need to move forward with confidence, dignity and hope.

We’ve been moulding more than clay in the ACT! 🏺

Over the past five weeks, veterans, partners and family members have been spinning up something special through two incredible pottery and ceramics programs with The Ceramic Studio ACT and Deep Blue Ceramics: sustainable handmade homewares.

Participants built their skills step-by-step while exploring pottery as a creative outlet and a way to connect with others in the community. From coasters and cups to vases and more, each piece reflected creativity, growth and plenty of personality - with everyone taking home their handmade creations at the end of the program.

These programs were made possible through the support of the ACT Government.

Strengthening connection and community in Darwin 💛

On Saturday, veterans and families gathered at Sweethearts Darwin for a shared lunch focused on connection, conversation and community.

The event featured an insightful presentation from Lt Col Peter Zimmermann on military medicine and wellbeing, alongside a special moment with the presentation of an Aussie Hero Quilt (Aussie Hero Quilts (and Laundry Bags)) to Major (Rtd) Erica van Ash from the Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps, presented by Luke Gosling MP.

Sincere thanks to ServiceStream for their generous support in making this event possible.

We look forward to bringing the same spirit of connection and community to our upcoming lunch event in Adelaide later this month.

• pathways to rebuild purpose and stability

Right now, your support can make the difference between someone struggling alone and someone finding a way forward.

Rebuilding, one step at a time... 🎓🌱

After experiencing significant health challenges, Rory* found himself without a stable place to stay while focusing on his recovery.

Today, with support from Soldier On, he is living in supported accommodation and undertaking a leadership course through our Career and Education Support program with Eighth Mile Consulting. The course is helping Rory rebuild confidence and work towards future goals at a pace that supports his wellbeing.

"Now I'm focusing on myself, my doctors, the support staff here... they're all supporting me just to work on myself and pick myself up."

For Rory, the course is part of the smaller, steadier world he is building as he focuses on his health, with support that is already making a positive difference.

"I'm just not rushing anything anymore."

One module at a time. One step at his own pace.
