Rotary Club of Canberra Weston Creek

Rotary Club of Canberra Weston Creek The Rotary Club of Canberra Weston Creek was established on 17 May 1980. (“Family first, job second, and Rotary third”).

The Club meets every Monday at 6.00 pm for 6.30 pm at The Canberra Irish Club, 6 Parkinson Street, Weston, ACT, Australia The Rotary Club of Canberra Weston Creek was established on 17 May 1980 upon the presentation of its Charter from Rotary International admitting the Club to RI. The Rotary Club of Canberra Weston Creek is one of almost 30 000 Rotary clubs worldwide, with a total membership of 1

.2 million. The Rotary Club of Canberra Weston Creek is a part of Rotary District 9710, which is made up of almost 50 clubs, covering Canberra and south eastern NSW, an area of some 60 000 square kilometres. A major key to the success of the Club is the enjoyment that members derive from the fellowship of other members and their involvement in the various service tasks undertaken by the Club. The Club recognises that family and professional and business commitments mean that not all members can involve themselves in every activity of the club. The breadth of activities undertaken by the Club provides ample opportunity, however, for each member to participate in a way that fits with his/her other obligations while still enabling them to make a meaningful contribution to Club activities. Some notable achievements of the Rotary Club of Canberra-Weston Creek over its 29 year history include:

• Establishment of 5 Probus clubs in the Weston Creek area.
• Assistance in the er****on of the Scout Hall in Weston.
• Painting of squash courts at the Weston Creek Community Centre.
• Refurbishment of the garden at Pooh Bear’s occasional care centre.
• Funding of the hydro-therapy pool at Malkara School.
• Supply and er****on of a large shed at Youth Haven.
• “Project 5” – a garden beautification project at the Canberra Hospital Oncology Unit.
• Development of the courtyard at Mirinjani Aged Persons Home.
• Project management of the Clare Holland House garden development.
• Establishment of Brindabella Rotaract Club.
• On-going support for volunteer mentors in schools

Back in February, we held a ‘dignity drive’ at one of our dinner meetings - encouraging members to bring along period and other hygiene products to donate to a local charity that works with women and girls.

Thanks to the kindness and practical support of our members, we collected:

24 bottles of shampoo and conditioner

12 deodorants

14 tubes of toothpaste

16 toothbrushes

14 packs of pads

30 packs of tampons

In addition, members donated bars of soap, body wash, baby wipes, nappies, moisturiser and tissues.

Today, our club director for community service, was able to hand over these items to Toora Women. Toora are a vital community organisation providing services to women in the spaces of family and domestic violence, homelessness, and mental health and wellbeing.

✨ What a night at Rotary Weston Creek! ✨

Last night we celebrated the heart of Rotary in action:

💬 We heard from Phoebe, our sponsored Year 10 student, who shared her inspiring experience at the RYPEN youth leadership camp — stepping outside her comfort zone, finding friendship, and learning that true service is humble.

🤝 We warmly inducted two new members into our club family — a reminder that our strength is in community and connection.

🎙️ We were challenged by guest speaker Josh Hewitt from Everyman Australia, who asked: “Have men lost their way?” His powerful message reminded us that change starts with responsibility, respect, and building healthier pathways for men and families. You can read more about his talk on our website.

It was an evening of inspiration, inclusion, and meaningful conversation — a snapshot of Rotary at its best
