NACCHO Aboriginal Health Australia The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is the peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in Australia.

Our Health in Our Hands NACCHO is the national peak body representing 144 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) across the country on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing issues. NACCHO is the third largest employer of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia, with over 3,500 out of the 6,000 staff working in ACCHOs being either of Abo

When Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are partners in designing a national program from day one, our people use it.

Almost 100,000 Australians at high risk of lung cancer have accessed free screening in the first year of the National Lung Cancer Screening Program > More than 5% of those screened are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

NACCHO CEO, Dr Dawn Casey says strong uptake of lung screening by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the program's first year is not a "happy accident."

"It is what happens when screening is built to be culturally safe, delivered through Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, and backed by a growing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer workforce."

Diphtheria doesn’t belong in our communities.

Vaccination is the best protection from severe illness, and adults may need a booster.

Free vaccines are available in many areas. Have a yarn with your clinic. Check what’s right for you and your family.

Let’s get diphtheria outta here.

ACCOs have a powerful role in leading Rainbow Mob inclusion – ensuring everyone gets access to safe and supportive care.

We encourage everyone to stand proud and support Rainbow Mob inclusion.

Keeping mob safe starts with clear information, trusted voices and community-led action.

NACCHO has developed a social media and resources toolkit to support ACCHOs in sharing important diphtheria health messaging with their communities.

The toolkit includes resources on vaccination, treatment and key prevention messages, designed to help ACCHOs raise awareness in ways that are local, practical and culturally safe.

Because when communities have the right information, delivered by the right people, we are better placed to protect our families, our Elders and our mob.

Together, we can get diphtheria outta here!

Congratulations to Pat Turner on being appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia.

Already a Member of the Order of Australia, this further honour reflects Pat’s extraordinary lifetime of service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Pat has dedicated her life to advancing the rights, health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Her leadership has helped strengthen the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector, elevate the voices of First Nations organisations, and drive meaningful change through Closing the Gap.

As she begins her next chapter following her retirement from NACCHO and the Coalition of Peaks, we acknowledge her advocacy for First Nations people to have a seat at the table in decisions that affect their communities.

This appointment recognises a lifetime of service and an extraordinary contribution to our nation.

Congratulations, Pat. This honour is richly deserved. ❤️
