John Fantini Alpinist, Rock Climber and Living Legend, charmed and amazed the attentive audience with some of his exploits. A modest man, the statistics of Johns' Stellar career such as 12 ascents of Mt. Cook in one season, were mentioned by other speakers. John has mellowed with time, but still still climbs grade 22 and we occasionaly glimpsed the inner Tiger during this thrilling presentation on Cerro Torre. Skahas' loss is Canberras' gain!

Peak Learning Adventures is a proud sponsor if the CCA. The Canberra based company operates treks and climbs to mountainous areas around the world, including Papua New Guinea (Kokoda Trail), South America (Aconcagua), Africa (Kilimanjaro) and Nepal (Himalayas).

Coming up in October this year is a mountaineering expedition to climb Mera Peak (6476m) and Island Peak (6189m) in Nepal. These two mountains an excellent introduction to high altitude mountaineering. Climbers are rewarded with one of the most remarkable panoramas in the Himalaya — views of five of the world’s highest mountains: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Kangchenjunga, Climbers will be led by Australia’s most experienced high-altitude mountaineers, supported by a team that understands both the physical and psychological demands of expedition life.

The second trip is the spectacular Everest Three Passes trek, a 22 day lodge-based trek guided by an Australian Everest mountaineer, visiting Everest Base Camp and crossing three high passes and two Himalayan glaciers (hence avoiding the crowds on the usual route). For more information on both trips, contact Zac directly via [email protected]
