Blue Mountains Sport Climbing Meet

When: 19–20 September 2026, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM (AEST)
Where: Blue Mountains, NSW (Darug & Gundungurra Country)

Join the Canberra Climbers’ Association for a weekend of sport climbing, skill-building, and community connection. This meet is designed for independent, competent CCA members, with a particular focus on those who’ve recently completed Sport Climbing 101 and want to gain further confidence and experience at a different crag.

On the recent CCA Blue Mountains meet for Sport Climbing 101 graduates, the group visited the Soft Parade and the Sunbath. One of the group’s favourite climbs at the Sunbath was the first pitch of Schwing (grade 18, 18 m).

It' Falcon season at Red Rocks folks. See closure dates in the Parks ACT post.

Hey rock climbers! Our local Peregrine Falcons have a small favour to ask. 🦅

To support Peregrine Falcon breeding season, Red Rocks cliff in Bullen Range Nature Reserve will be closed to climbers from 1 August to 31 December. ⛔

Peregrine Falcons breed in just 7 locations across the ACT, including Red Rocks Gorge. They’re highly sensitive to human activity during their breeding season, and even minor disturbances can result in a falcon abandoning its nest and its eggs. 🐣

The good news is there are plenty of other climbs in the area. These include:
🐝 Bee Crag – on the Murrumbidgee Discovery Track, downstream approximately 2.2km to the north of Kambah Pool.
⛰️ Kambah Rocks – located off the Murrumbidgee Discovery Track, approximately 1km downstream of Red Rocks cliff.
🌲 Little Pine – 5 minutes-walk from Pine Island carpark near the playground.

CCA Frog Buttress Trad Meet 2026! 12 members ranging in ages from early thirties through to seventies spent a week climbing together at the crack climbing mecca in sunny Queensland ☀️ Finger cracks through to offwidths, thin seams though to steep pumpers, there was a route for everyone.

It's NAIDOC week and Local Indigenous Group Yerrabis' (who have partnered with CCA for the First Nations Youth Rockclimbing Program) Yawararj Mara program is also presenting an ART exhibition at the Belco Arts Centre. Why not get along and support our oldest culture!

John Fantini Alpinist, Rock Climber and Living Legend, charmed and amazed the attentive audience with some of his exploits. A modest man, the statistics of Johns' Stellar career such as 12 ascents of Mt. Cook in one season, were mentioned by other speakers. John has mellowed with time, but still still climbs grade 22 and we occasionaly glimpsed the inner Tiger during this thrilling presentation on Cerro Torre. Skahas' loss is Canberras' gain!

General Meeting - 7.30 Wednesday

Climb aboard the Fantini Express as John takes us on a wild ride up one of the most beautiful, dramatic, dangerous and difficult mountains in the world – Cerro Torre. In a rare treat the enigmatic John Fantini, world renowned alpinist and rock climber, has agreed to share his stunning photos and tales of his successful ascent on his fifth attempt, along with some of the history and ongoing deep controversy associated with the mountain. He will also talk about other peaks including Fitzroy and Aguja Poincenot.

Come and hear a rundown of the CCA’s recent activities plus general climbing news and points of interest, followed by our guest speaker presentation.

CCA members and non-members are welcome.

Dinner is available from The Limestone Kitchen at the Ainslie Football Club, providing a great chance to relax and socialise with other CCA members before the meeting starts at 7.30pm. A table in the name of CCA is booked for 6pm
