Gamelan Sedulur Monco is currently Canberra’s only Javanese gamelan group. Supported by the Australian Indonesian Youth Association (AIYA) and the ANU Indonesian Students Association (ANUISA) . Gamelan Sedulur Monco welcomes all Canberrans to practice, hear, and learn about the cultural performance of gamelan.

The group’s name was chosen to highlight the background of its members, as it translates to ‘friends from around the world’. It represents how the gamelan group encourages people to come together, share culture, and connect through music.

In Java, the gamelan performs for a number of cultural events such as weddings, wayang kulit (puppet show) performances, cultural celebrations, and more. At Immersia 2024, we invite viewers to experience an immersive snippet of Java through the music of the gamelan.

Who are we?

Australian National University Indonesian Students Association (ANUISA) or Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia Australia di Australian National University (PPIA ANU) is the main representative body for Indonesian students at ANU. Our vision is to realise ANUISA as a platform for Indonesian students to contribute positively to ANU, Australia and Indonesia. To achieve this vision, throughout the year we organise social, cultural and academic events for the public, especially for Indonesian students at ANU. We also provide online content by and for Indonesian students. Although it is optional for you to join as a member, we strongly recommend it because you will receive invitations and discounts to attend our community and / or cultural events, and you can participate in our extracurricular activities. The membership fee is $10 and this will give you discounts with our sponsors and exclusive access to some of our events and activities. The membership fee will be used to support our events and projects in the future. To become a member, visit us on Market Day or contact us by email or social media. If you would like to be more involved with us and the Indonesian community in Canberra, we encourage you to join the ANUISA 2019 committee. We guarantee you will get useful contacts and experiences.
