This NAIDOC Week (5โ€“12 July), we join communities across the country in celebrating the 2026 theme: 50 Years of Deadly. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has honoured the strength, culture and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, and the communities who keep showing up.

At Arthritis Australia, we believe everyone deserves the chance to live well. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experience arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions at higher rates, and culturally safe, community-led care is essential to closing that gap. We're committed to listening, learning, and walking alongside communities toward better health for all.

We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and to the generations building the next 50 years.

We are opening enrolments for our next facilitated self help course, starting end of July.

Some feedback from other participants:

"Very grateful to have been able to have done this course - it broke down pacing into something more accessible with built in accountability, and it allowed me to both share and listen to/connect with others in similar situations."

"Really helpful and has improved my quality of life and mental health"

"I felt like the others in the course wanted to listen to what I had to say and that doesn't seem to happen often these days which was nice."

HISTORIC NEWS for the arthritis community.

The Australian Government has just announced a $100m million research Mission for arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions - the biggest standalone Federal investment in arthritis research in Australia's history.

If you live with arthritis, if you care for someone who does, if you've ever sat in a waiting room wondering when things would get better - this announcement is for you ๐Ÿ’™

Nearly 7 million Australians live with these conditions every single day. This Mission will fund the research breakthroughs that can change that - earlier diagnosis, better treatments, and the real hope of cures.

This didn't happen overnight. It took years of advocacy from people just like you - patients, carers, clinicians, and researchers who refused to let arthritis be overlooked.

Therabands are easy ways of adapting exercise to your abilities because they come in a range of different strengths, are cheap to purchase and can be used in many different ways to add a little resistance to each movement, building your muscle.
