Q***r friends and allies in Canberra, we want to hear from YOU!

🥳🏳️‍🌈 A belated Happy Pride Month, our lovely friends across Canberra. It’s our time to celebrate the diversity in this colourful and vibrant community together. Let our stories and love shine, and spread warmth through this freezing winter.

💜 As our team is preparing for the Q***r film festival, we want to hear your voice. Let us know the iconic Q***r films in your comfort watch list that you would like to see again on the big screen. Or even the films you really want to enjoy with your friends and family, but haven’t screened in Australia yet.

👉 Whether it’s an Australian Q***r story or one coming from other countries around the world. Whether it’s a feature film, a documentary, or a short film. If the story and the love touch your heart, we might be able to bring it to Canberra this September within our festival.

THE BIG REVEAL IS HERE!

💜🏳‍🌈 It will be the first free Q***r film festival ever to be organised locally in Canberra. With this special event, we aim to help spread love, raise awareness, and improve understanding of global LGBTIQA+ communities among LGBTIQA+ Canberrans and allies.

📚🌈 This Saturday, meet author Sean Perera at our Southside Q***r Silent Book Club

✨ Diversity ACT is thrilled to welcome Sean Perera, an emerging local author, to the Diversity Hub this Saturday! Sean will share insights from his debut novel, a Butterfly, and chat with us about the themes and inspirations behind his work.

🦋 About a Butterfly
a Butterfly is a q***r coming-of-age young adult novel set against conflicting
backdrops of identity, relationships and culture. The protagonist’s name, Pathanga,
which in Sanskrit means butterfly, is also pejorative slang for homosexual in Sri Lanka, where this novel originates. Written in four parts, this young adult novel narrates Pathanga’s family relationships, friendships, sexual awakening and most importantly explorations of himself.

👤 About Sean Perera
Sean Perera is a writer, an academic and an experiential philosopher who holds a PhD in science communication and currently lectures on cross-cultural communication at The Australian National University. He is a keen observer of humanity through the complementary lenses of scientific rationality and emotional expression.
