Kidsafe ACT

Kidsafe ACT A safer Canberra for children.

We do this by preventing and reducing unintentional childhood injury and death through advocacy, education and community service delivery, including car seat and home safety sales and consultations.

Please be careful.

Please be careful.

Damaging winds of over 90km/h are expected in the Snowy Mountains and around the alpine peaks of the ACT today.

A 90km/h gust is strong enough to knock you over if you are unsteady on your feet.

Important safety update for parents and carers!

Baby bottle self-feeding devices are now banned due to serious safety risks.

If you have one at home, please stop using it and dispose of it safely so it can't be used again.

To keep your baby safe during feeding:

- Always stay with your baby

- Never prop bottles

- Never leave infants to feed unsupervised

Access Canberra is the regulator responsible for enforcing Australian Consumer Law in the ACT.

If you see these banned products being supplied or sold, you can report it:

Phone: 13 22 81

Or visit: https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/consumer-rights/get-help-with-a-consumer-issue

[Image description: A poster style graphic showing two images of baby self-feeding devices. The heading says 'Permanent Ban'. And the smaller copy says β€˜A permanent ban is now in effect, due to the risk of injury or death from the use of these products to feed infants.

If you own one, stop using it immediately and dispose of it safely.’]

Did you know that many of the ACT's community centres, such as the Pearce Community Centre where Kidsafe ACT is located, cannot host the charging of electric vehicles?

The infrastructure is too weak and outdated. This needs to change.

We have just written to Andrew Barr ACT Chief Minister regarding the availability of electrical charging at Canberra's community centres.

This would have a big difference for the environment, while also saving costs for local charities. Less money on fuel means more funds for frontline services that Canberrans rely on.

Just as long as you remember to remove puffer jackets from little kids before putting them in their car seats πŸ˜‰

Winter is here! Time to pull out your puffer jackets as frosty mornings and cold winds become more frequent. ❄️

As the temps drop, it’s easy to feel a bit run down. But a few simple habits can help you survive – and thrive – this winter.

β˜€οΈ Go outside and get some sunshine (hello, vitamin D!)
🚢 Be active – even a short walk can boost your mood, energy and immune system
β˜• Stay connected – check in with friends, family or colleagues – small chats go a long way
πŸ₯£ Eat nourishing foods – soup season is officially here and we’re all for it
😴 Prioritise sleep – your body will thank you
πŸ’™ Look after your mental health – if something doesn’t feel right, talk to a health professional – you don’t have to tough it out alone.

It has been a magnificent day for Reconciliation Day in Canberra.

Today, we are deeply proud to launch our 'reflect' Reconciliation Action Plan, which demonstrates our deep and genuine commitment to the cause.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are disproportionately more like to suffer ill health and death due to preventable injuries, which is itself the leading cause of death for all Australian children.

This is not acceptable, which is why Kidsafe ACT will work tirelessly to ensure that kids are kept as safe as possible.
