IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL CPAG members:

We were so looking forward to gathering this Saturday, 30 May 2026, for the Two Cultures, One Table event, but we are letting you know that we must unfortunately postpone the event due to unforeseen circumstances.

Our dear friend and Ngambri leader, Paul House, who was slated to be the main speaker for the event, has been in a car accident. While we are incredibly saddened by this news, our absolute priority right now is supporting Paul and his family during this time. We warmly ask that you keep Paul in your thoughts and prayers for a swift and full recovery.

What Happens Next?
CPAG absolutely still intends to hold Two Cultures, One Table at a later date. Please rest assured that we will reach out with new details as soon as they are finalised.

Honouring Reconciliation Week This Saturday
Because this Saturday is part of National Reconciliation Week, we still encourage you to connect, reflect, and gather if you are able.

If you are looking for a meaningful way to spend your Saturday, you might wish to pack a picnic and join community members at the National Carillon on Saturday, 30 May, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, where there will be a free concert playing.

Event Details:

What: Reconciliation Week Free Concert & Picnic

When: Saturday, 30 May | 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM

Where: National Carillon, Queen Elizabeth II Island

More Info: You can find extra details at nca.gov.au/events

Thank you so much for your understanding, your flexibility, and your shared warmth as we send our best wishes to Paul.

What a wonderful morning of birdwatching and nature learning with CPAG yesterday! 🐦🌿

Some of the fascinating things we learned along the way:
• Noisy miners may look cute, but they’re actually known as the “bullies” of the bird world, often chasing away smaller birds.
• Quolls are carnivorous marsupials and are mostly nocturnal.
• Male fairy wrens grow their striking bright blue feathers to attract females. During winter, most lose the blue except for their tails, although dominant alpha males often keep their vivid plumage year-round.
• The weebill is the smallest bird in Australia.
• Frogmouths may look like owls, but they’re a different species altogether and are known for eating frogs and insects.
• Grebes are amazing divers, plunging underwater to catch fish.
• Mistletoe birds eat mistletoe berries and help spread the seeds by depositing them onto tree branches, where new mistletoe plants can grow.
• Many black-and-white birds are often seen flocking together for protection and feeding.

A lovely reminder of how rich and unique Australia’s wildlife is, and how much there is to discover when we slow down and observe nature closely.

A huge thank you to Canberra Birds and the Conservation Council ACT for organising this wonderful activity for CPAG and sharing their knowledge and passion for local wildlife with our community. 💚

Share with us what you’ve learned from the activity!

As we culminate Women’s Month, we are reminded that the work toward respect, dignity, and equality for women continues - in our communities, our workplaces, and our everyday interactions.

This month is not only about celebration, but also about recognising the leadership, resilience, and contributions of women who continue to create meaningful change.

In this spirit, we are proud that our own Emy Liwag, Secretary of the Canberra Pinoy Advocacy Group (CPAG), has been featured in FILCCA’s 31 inspiring Filipinas. Her work reflects the essence of Women’s Month - grounded in service, community, and a deep commitment to advocacy. Her contributions remind us that change is built not only through big moments, but through consistent, everyday efforts.

As we close this month, we do not simply celebrate women - we reaffirm our commitment to continue the work. Because the pursuit of equality does not end with March, it continues every day.

The Canberra Pinoy Advocacy Group (CPAG), in partnership with Migrant Workers Service Canberra, recently brought the community together for an engaging information session on the rights of temporary visa holders and international students in Australia.

Participants gained valuable insights into workplace rights and support services, as well as important updates, including the Workplace Justice Visa, new visa cancellation protections, and greater flexibility when changing employers. Lawyers from the Immigration Advice and Rights Centre presented these updates and thoughtfully responded to questions from participants.

We also recognise the powerful advocacy behind these changes. One of the organisers, Geraline from the Philippines, has been at the forefront of the fight against workplace exploitation, efforts that helped push the Department of Home Affairs to introduce these new visa pathways.

It was a lively and empowering discussion (on a Monday night!), with thoughtful questions, shared experiences, and strong community spirit throughout.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our partners for helping make the session both informative and impactful. 🇵🇭🇦🇺

31/12/2025

As we welcome the New Year, CPAG thanks our community for a year of collective action, learning, and solidarity - from community gatherings and workshops to conversations that mattered. May the year ahead bring renewed energy for advocacy, shared opportunities, and peace for all.

Happy New Year from the Canberra Pinoy Advocacy Group! 🥳❤️
