The Centre for Classical Studies will be holding an Honours information session at 4pm on Wednesday August 20, in the AD Hope Building Conference Room (no. 128).

The event will be hosted by our Honours Convenor, Dr Tatiana Bur, who will explain what Honours is, eligibility requirements, and funding available (including the Tall Foundation Honours Scholarship and our new Brynrefail Honours Grants). You will hear from current Honours students about their experiences and from a panel of alumni who will discuss how Honours set them up for their future careers. The event will be followed by a reception in the ANU Classics Museum where you can chat further with staff, students, and alumni.

Everyone is welcome, whether you are preparing for Honours next year or a first-year student curious about possible pathways for the future.

This week's Historians Anonymous is all about 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬.

We'll be reading through several extracts from Virgil's Aeneid to get a flavour for the text and to understand some of its key themes and messages.

This is a great week for our classicist friends to share with us their knowledge and insights on this topic!

We'll be in AD Hope, Room G12 this Thursday at 4 pm.
Hope to see you there!

(For those that are unaware, Historians Anonymous is a relaxed weekly reading group part of the ANU History Society that requires no prior preparation... all you have to do is show up! As a group we read through fascinating excerpts from all sorts of historical topics.)

Not a week classicists will want to miss!!

Hello everyone! A reminder that we are running 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗼𝗻𝘆𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 again this week!

This week's topic is a juicy one... we'll be reading 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗰𝘆𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀' 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀' 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, then comparing it with the celebrated (and mercifully shorter) 𝗚𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆𝘀𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀, one of the most iconic speeches in American history.

Both funeral orations, separated by over 2200 years of history... how will they stack up next to one another?

Come join us, as always, in AD Hope, 𝗔𝗗 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲, 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝟭𝟮 𝗮𝘁 𝟯 𝗽𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, and a big thank you again to the elite crew that joined last week!

𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐘𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐒 𝐈𝐒 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐌 𝟐!!!

Back with a bang, in fact - next week's reading topic is none other than the remarkable series of poems known as Work and Days, written by the Greek poet Hesiod during the 8th century BC.

This is a week that none of our classics folk will want to miss out on, expecially given that there is no Classics Research Seminar this Wednesday!

Come join us in 𝐀𝐃 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞, 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐆𝟏𝟐 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟏𝟔 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟑 𝐩𝐦 - 𝟒 𝐩𝐦, and remember that there is NO PRIOR PREPARATION REQUIRED!! All you have to do is simply rock up!

For those unfamiliar with Historians Anonymous, it's a reading group dedicated for members of the ANU History Society in which students come together to read and discuss important and interesting works from history. It's incredibly relaxed - there is no pressure to either read aloud or make any comments. By the end of the session hopefully you will have learnt something new and shared some of your love for history!

The sessions are run by me, Marc Norman, and our co-president, Max Wilson.

We hope to see you there!

Hello everyone!

A reminder that Historians Anonymous is on TOMORROW at 3pm - head on over to AD Hope room G12 to learn about Niccolo Machievelli!

Historians Anonymous is a super relaxed way of meeting other history-inclined people, and (hopefully) of learning something new.

If you don't know how Historians Anonymous works, it's essentially a reading group where we get together to get the gist of an interesting historical work. It's super chill and requires absolutely zero preparation - you just have to rock up!

We hope to see you there!!
