One of our own was around the grounds at the National Folk Festival over the weekend! Scottish Country Dancers from Sydney, Darwin and Canberra showcased Scottish Ceilidh and Country dances as well as getting the general public in on the fun, fitness and friendship that Scottish Country Dancing has to offer!

Bradley, who happens to be teaching our beginners course on Thursday evenings starting on 16th April, was in on the action helping each individual navigate the dances while emphasising teamwork and fun!

If you happened to be there and/or are interested in Scottish Country Dancing, get in touch! We would love to have you experience the energy and fun-filled atmosphere that Scottish Country Dancing has to offer!

Payment prior to the whole 10 week beginners course starting at 6pm on Thursday 16th April in North Canberra Baptist Church on Condamine Street in Turner is encouraged!

We’re pleased to have some extra local musicians join us for the Southern Fling and Fringe this weekend!

Julia Arnold has been providing a valuable enchanting piano accompaniment for Matthew and David for at least 15 years and will be doing exactly that for classes and socials this weekend!

For the Friday evening Welcome dance our house band will feature David South (accordion), Julia Arnold (piano), Matthew Robertson (fiddle), and we’re delighted also to welcome fiddler Ginny Botha, currently based in Canberra as she works with children and adolescent mental health at The Canberra Centenary Hospital for Women and Children!

Double keys, double fiddles…awesome! We’re so excited and can’t wait for the musical and dancing atmosphere to thrive!

🌟Meet the Southern Fling and Fringe Committee🌟

🤩Meet Jae, 40 years old and dancing since 2022. He was first led to a ceilidh by a friend and, while he initially struggled with the unfamiliar terms and steps, it didn’t take long for him to discover the joy and charm of Scottish Country Dancing.

🎼As a dancer, he finds that almost every class and social dance brings something new – a different formation, a fresh step, or a dance he hasn’t experienced before. That constant sense of discovery keeps him coming back, eager to satisfy his curiosity and enjoy the excitement all over again. He’s especially inspired by the energy and passion of fellow dancers – the shared smiles, teamwork, and the fun of guessing the title of the dance tune together after the walkthrough, hearing only the first few bars of the music. He delights in the welcoming spirit of the community and the way everyone takes to the floor with warmth, enthusiasm, and a smile.

🏙️When he’s not dancing, he works in a team dealing with deeds and leases within the statutory planning division of the ACT Government. Being part of the development of the Australian Capital Territory gives him a genuine sense of pride and purpose. Whether on the dance floor or in the planning office, he enjoys being part of something that brings people together and builds community.
