17 EVs and at least 9 different makes joined our “Meet an EV Owner” at Torrens Shops.

It was a beautiful day, great conversations, lots of knowledge sharing on range anxiety, second hand EVs, novated leases, charging when you live in an apartment, and frustration with long waiting lists.

Damian and Tony demonstrated Full Self Drive trips which feel like having your own chauffeur!

Isa and Colin talked about range anxiety, and leasing. Julie talked about Plugshare, highway charging and buying second hand EVs. Jenny gave a plug for great charging spots when you live in apartments. Sarah talked to everyone about everything. John talked about how cheap EVs are to run. Our friends from AEVA talked about long trips across Australia in EVs. Bobby is on a mission to get more BYD T3s into Australia as the perfect tradie van that’s cheap to run.

So many fabulously enthusiastic owners, we’re excited to run our next one. We’re thinking Belconnen. Where do you want us to bring our EV owners to talk all things EVs? What cars do you want to check out?

The ACT branch of the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA ACT) is working with charge point operator Exploren to run AEVA's first “Charge Up” event, a demonstration and information session on EV charging.

On Sunday March 29 from 11am to 2pm, AEVA members will be at the Next Gen Lyneham bank of public DC fast chargers to help the public learn about charging EVs when travelling. This will include being able to practice plugging in an EV, starting a charging session, monitoring it, and finishing the charging session.

Our members will be available to answer any questions that the public may have about public charging, especially fast DC chargers. Refreshments will be provided.

AEVA ACT thanks Exploren for its support of this event.

According to new research from ANU (by Bin Lu & Marnie Shaw), Canberra could soon become more than just the bush capital, it might work as a giant battery!💡

The study explores innovative ideas like using EVs and electric water heaters as distributed energy storage hubs, helping us move towards smarter, more sustainable cities.

To address the growing concern around EV charging peaks destabilising the grid, the researchers used a GIS-based model for high-resolution spatial and scenario analysis, aiming to identify the best charging strategies for the future.

This work not only maps a path toward electrification but also calls for stronger policy support and continued academic input to make these ideas a reality. 📣
