Running for Resilience

Running for Resilience Saving one life from su***de, as many times as possible. Just. Keep. Moving (disclaimer via link)

Disclaimer: Running for Resilience is an unstructured concept that has been embraced by the Canberra and Mental Health communities. It can be engaged with in whichever way people see fit, and if you choose to take part in the weekly runs, you are doing so of your own volition, with consideration to your own circumstances, and accepting the associated risks.

Exercise, community, and writing, helped me through the hardest time in my life.

When my Dad died from su***de, I adopted a set of coping mechanisms that would hold me together for 9 years… but when my Mum was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, they were shattered… leaving me rudderless and in a constant state of fight or flight.

I found reprieve in exercise, I found support through community, and I found a way forward through writing... and as I overcame my struggle, I found other people who’d been through their own, other people who’d become stronger versions of themselves.

The belief in ourselves and our ability to overcome and endure hardship helps us through our own struggles. And as we find other people with that shared belief, it becomes hardened and validated… providing people evidence of a blueprint that works.

As our community of people who believe in the ability to overcome grows, our belief that no one is destined for su***de also grows... and before long, it can become a culture that doesn’t stand for it.

The perfect foundation for a su***de-free Canberra.

Big crowds can be lonely… and because of our volunteers, more people are being welcomed into our community than otherwise.

This week is National Volunteer Week and to celebrate, we had .stu.art and from to talk about the value of volunteering and how to get involved.

On the other side of tragedy are the memories of the ones we’ve lost.

Connor Hogan must have been a special person.

The mark he left on these fellas was obvious and the legacy they’re continuing for their friend is touching.

Thank you for all that you do,
