What a fantastic start to Spring it’s been for our Evatt Group! 🌸✨
We are so proud of everything our members have accomplished recently. From learning exciting new skills and welcoming new friends into our community, to blowing us away with their amazing creativity - check out the stunning boots one of our amazing members made! It’s been an absolute joy to watch everyone thrive and grow together. 🎨🤝

We've been continuing with learning new granny square patterns, and are looking forward to seeing some amazing rugs on the way for those in need! ❤️🧶

After a wonderful 2-week breather for the school holidays, we are so excited to jump right back into the fun today!! 🚀✨

October is Mental Health Month and we're very proud to be partnering with Westfield Belconnen to run another public stitching event, after the success of our Worldwide Knit In Public Day activities 🧶😍

At GOG, we work year round to support positive mental health in Canberra through our community workshops: encouraging mindfulness, relaxation, and social connection through knitting and crochet 💜💚 It's so wonderful to see the skills, friendships, and wellbeing benefits that participants find, and we want to spread the joy!! 🥰

Learning a new skill is also a great way to keep your brain active and healthy, so whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned stitcher, join us for a fun day 🫶

🕙 10am to 3pm
📍Westfield Belconnen (Level 2 outside L'Occitane)
🧶 Bring a current project if you have one, or some yarn and a pattern if you would like to start one - there'll be experienced stitchers there who can help you out if you're a beginner!

Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team at the Taylor group! 🌟
Over the last couple of months, you have put so much heart and hard work into supporting our community. From painstakingly sewing together knitted squares to creating some of our fantastic Gogster Maker Gogsters and mascots, your creativity and dedication have truly brought everything to life! 🧵✨

While we're sad to say a temporary goodbye to some of our amazing group mentors and volunteers, we wish you safe travels and all the very best on your break. We're already counting down the days until we get to welcome you back early next year! 📅❤️

We'll be back at Taylor on Thursday 15th after our school holiday break and can't wait to see what everyone's been working on during the holidays! Thank you all so much for everything you do!💜💚

🎁 Deliveries of Joy! 🎁
Over the past two months, our amazing community has brought so many smiles across Canberra Health Services! From hospital wards to specialist care teams, we’ve made multiple deliveries across various CHS sites, reaching a massive 1400 handmade Goodies delivered in just 2 months! 😍 👏 Check out a few snapshots below from our recent drop-offs 📸👇

Beyond bringing a smile, your contributions play a vital role in patient care. CHS staff share that these handmade items have become essential therapeutic and relational tools. They help reduce patient distress, offer comfort and distraction, and give healthcare professionals a warm way to build trust with patients and families while meeting National Health Care Standards.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to every single member who contributed, crafted, and donated to make these deliveries possible. Your generosity and hard work are making a real, tangible difference to patients, and families and healthcare staff across Canberra.

Lastly, but not least, a huge thank you to RKDN for their support with streamlining this process! We couldn't do this without the them and the support of our incredible community! ❤️✨

Big news from our ongoing partnership with the Hospital School! 🌟
Our connection keeps growing stronger, and thanks to some truly amazing members, we’ve just donated two brand-new school mascots to the kids - Eve the Echidna and Wallace the Wombat! 🧸✨The best part? One of the talented students at the school has already written full backstories for both of them—giving them so much personality and life! 📚 Heartwarming doesn't even begin to cover it.

To celebrate this awesome milestone, a couple of cool new things have popped up:
🎨 The GOG Wall: Check out the new wall display showing our full connection journey, the creative process, and how these mascots came to life!
📖 The GOG Book: We now have a dedicated book packed with all the incredible info about the Gogsters being submitted directly through the app!

What’s next? 🎈 During Children’s Week, our team is heading into the school to run a super fun, hands-on activity with the students. We are counting down the days and absolutely cannot wait to see all those smiles in person!

🧵✨ Stitch for Wellbeing at UC Hospital! ✨🧵
We had such an amazing time at our recent Stitch for Wellbeing session at UC Hospital! 🧶💙

It was a true joy sharing the art of crochet and passing on a creative skill that supports mindfulness, relaxation, and overall wellbeing. Seeing everyone immerse themselves in the craft, connect, and enjoy the process made the day so special.

A HUGE thank you to Molly for all her wonderful support in making this session happen, we couldn't have done it without you! 🙌✨

We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing GOG mentors for making the time to come along and share their guidance. Your support made a huge difference! 💖

October is packed with creative connections, crafty catch-ups, and a little Halloween magic! 🎃

We have some extra special events planned too including our annual Pink Ribbon Afternoon Tea, Stitch for Mental Health Month at Westfield Belconnen, and plenty of spooky surprises along the way 👻🍬.

💙A huge THANK YOU to our incredible sewing heroes! ✂️🧵✨
Today we wanted to give a massive shout-out to Mission Stitchin' who create our beautiful hospital gowns, quilts, and so many other wonderful items, and to all our amazing GOG members who dedicate their time to sewing quilts too.

Our deliveries now include specially designed gowns for youth and children in the Pediatric ICU thanks to Pat and her angels. 👧🧒💓 We wish you could have seen the reaction from the hospital staff, they were absolutely thrilled to receive them! Even more special, we had the privilege of speaking with some families with little ones in the ICU. They were so deeply grateful to receive these cozy, comforting items during such a challenging time.

To everyone who picks up a needle, cuts fabric, or sews a seam: you are bringing warmth, joy, and comfort to children and families when they need it most.

Thank you for your endless dedication and generous hearts! 💖👇

GOG has been selected as a community partner in the 2026 Canberra Community chest. We were previously selected in 2023 and our horse came 3rd which was a great win for us! ✨

The following has been announced in the media release:

"The Canberra Racing Club (CRC) is delighted to announce that the Canberra Community Chest Pool has received a $15,000 bonus thanks to the signing of a new partnership with the Canberra Southern Cross Club (CSCC).

With the CSCC’s generous contribution, the Chest pool will be increased to $65,000. This will enable the last placed charity partner to receive $2,500, up from $1,000.

CSCC Chief Executive Matt Walshe said, “The Canberra Southern Cross Club is proud to partner with Thoroughbred Park through the Community Chest initiative.”

“When two community-minded organisations join forces to support local charities, only good can come of it. By working together, we’re strengthening our ability to give back to the community and make a meaningful difference to the lives of Canberrans.”

CRC Chief Executive Darren Pearce said, “Firstly, we must thank the Canberra Southern Cross Club for their partnership, friendship and generous contribution which will have a meaningful impact on the important causes that the Chest supports.”

“Our organisations are both community first, and we look forward to growing the Canberra Community Chest together for our city.”

The announcement comes at the same time that the Chest’s Independent Selection Committee confirm the first 11 partners for the 2026 Canberra Community Chest which will be run on Sunday, 22 November.

CRC thanks the Independent Selection Committee of Genevieve Jacobs, Archie Tsirimokos and Kate Palmer for their important contributions.

The 11 partners selected are:

Palliative Care
