Make A Mark Australia Make A Mark Australia - Empowering children in need through education. Decisions taken by the Management Committee are governed by MAMA’s Rules of Operation.

Strategic Focus

In accordance with its mission, MAMA focuses on providing impoverished children in underdeveloped communities access to reliable schooling and education. MAMA believes in not only educating the individual, but importantly, also assisting the community in fostering a supportive and sustainable economic environment for all children to grow, develop and excel. Allocation of Funding

MAMA’s Management Committee manages a strategic approach to the allocation of funds for projects that:

• Respond to clearly identified deficiencies or inadequacies in a child’s learning environment;
• Benefit communities and/or individuals at the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum that have limited access to appropriate educational and developmental resources; and
• Result in positive change and opportunity in the lives of recipients.

This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate the people who quietly show up, give back, and in the lives of others.

At MAMA, every conversation, event, connection and act of support is made stronger by volunteers who give their time, energy and heart to the community.

This year’s theme, ‘Your Year to Volunteer’, is a reminder that volunteering doesn’t have to look one way - every contribution matters, and every act of service creates impact.

To all of our wonderful volunteers, thanks for making your mark! 🩷

📚✨ A New School Year, Lasting Lessons ✨📚

As Australian schools return for a new year, we’ve been reflecting on the powerful moments from last year’s visit by students from to Honiara.

Their time at Amoana Christian Academy was filled with shared learning, friendship and genuine connection - reminders that education is not just about classrooms, but about understanding the world and one another.

The lessons from that visit continue well beyond the school gates: humility, gratitude, service and the knowledge that even small actions can make a big difference.

As students settle back into routines and classrooms, we’re reminded that experiences like these shape young people for life. 🌏🩷

As we pause at the end of the year, we do so with deep gratitude - for the students, teachers, communities, supporters and partners who make our work possible.

This year reminded us that education is empowerment, and that connection, kindness and service can bridge oceans and change lives - often in the simplest of ways.

To everyone who has walked alongside us, thank you for making your mark and believing in the power of learning.

Wishing you a Christmas filled with connection, reflection and hope, and a New Year full of possibility.

🇸🇧 The former Governor-General Dame Quentin Bryce met with students from Marist College and Canberra Girls Grammar School to hear about their ten-day immersion in Honiara last July.

Dame Quentin, who has spent a lifetime championing education and social justice, told the students she was “enormously impressed” by the spirit of their immersion and the way they turned concern into action.

“It is a question we must all ask ourselves from time to time: What am I–me, myself – going to do about what I see and what concerns me and troubles me?” she said.

This week, students from visited one of ’s project partners - the Amoana Christian Academy in Honiara. They shared stories, laughter, and special memories.

These moments remind us that education connects us beyond borders. Through shared experiences, students from both schools learn not only about each other’s cultures and communities, but also about the power of kindness, curiosity, and service.

Thank you to everyone who made this visit possible - proof that when young people come together with open hearts, they really can make a mark.
