Thank you to everyone who came to the screening of Voices of Resistance in Canberra and panel conversation, and stood with Myanmar in such a meaningful way.

Even in Canberra’s freezing cold, the Hedley Bull Lecture Theatre was full, with people standing at the back when seats ran out.

We are deeply grateful to our speakers, Dr Tun Aung Shwe, Ma Thida and Alice Wai, for a meaningful conversation on resistance, legitimacy, political imprisonment, gendered repression, and Myanmar’s ongoing struggle for freedom.

Our sincere thanks to Professor Nick Cheesman and the ANU Myanmar Research Centre for supporting the event and opening the evening; to ANU Myanmar Students’ Association; to Mohinga Hub; to Refugee Action Campaign Canberra; to Mary Johnston, English as Anything, and Singing for All Choir for sharing solidarity through song; and to Ko Min Maw Kun for his moving musical reflection.

Special thanks also to Myanmar Corner, the Myanmar community in Canberra, and friends who travelled from Sydney, Melbourne and beyond to be with us.

We were honoured to welcome attendees from government, including Members and advisers, DFAT, academia, civil society, refugee and multicultural communities, students, artists, advocates, media, and many friends of Myanmar.

Your presence reminded us that Myanmar is not forgotten and our story is still unfolding.
