Did you know MCF-A is a registered charity and donations over $2 are tax deductible?

MCF-A is funded by its members and supporters with the only Government support being some office space on a Base. The part-time Staff Worker is the only paid person, everyone else is a volunteer.

To help keep MCF-A supporting and furthering God's Kingdom in Defence, please consider giving a donation before the end of this financial year.

There are various ways you can donate, click the link below and scroll to the bottom of the page to see all your options.

MCF is supported by generous free-will and tax-deductible donations. This enables MCF to be an instrument through which others in Defence are led to Christ, to equip, support and inspire Christians in Defence, and to actively support the ministry of Defence Christian Chaplains. These funds enable us...

ANZAC Way is a Veteran focussed Australian pilgrimage.

The pilgrimage starts at Kapooka (Army), passes through RAAF Wagga Wagga (Air Force), the Australian War Memorial, HMAS Albatross and concludes at HMAS Creswell (Navy). The ANZAC Way links these sites through a curated route to recognise the shared heritage of those who have served by land, air, and sea, and the enduring spirit that unites the veteran community.

The Department of Defence & Veterans Affairs includes spirituality as a factor affecting mental health and wellbeing. ANZAC Way acknowledges health and wellbeing are not complete without tending to the soul, and aims to focus on three wellbeing factors; ‘meaning & spirituality’, ‘social support & connection’ and ‘health’. Our pilgrimage offers participants a new way to foster connection, meaning, and renewal among veterans – walking together through the landscapes that shaped our national story and our shared service.

You can read all about the 2026 walk and register your interest for future walks. It's well worth a look!

'The Book of Common Courage', mentioned below, was given lovingly to me by one of my grandsons. Thanks Joshua.

Thought for the Week
In a very enlightening book titled, ‘The Book of Common Courage’, I came across these words written by K. J. Ramsey, ‘When we feel lost, may we risk being found.’ I sat for quite some time thinking about those words, and started to ask questions like, “Can we become too comfortable in our lostness?” How can that happen, you might say? Well, feeling lost, for whatever reason, can attract a lot of attention from people who care; being given a hug, for example. (I do love a hug!) And for a time, we may need that attention; we may need a hug or a cuddle even, and we may need the help of those about us. But a time will come when we do have to risk being found. What might that mean? Launching out and being a bit more independent, not relying on other people so much, no matter how willing they are; finding ourselves and finding life again. That takes courage! It is launching out into the unknown. And not knowing what is ahead can be scary. But, it is only scary because we think we are on our own. We are not! God is right there. In fact, he has been there all along! Just listen to these words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount:

“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.

“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
“You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.” Mt 5:3-5 (MSG)
Jesus is only too ready to bless us in our lostness. Yes, in our lostness! And once we have received his blessing, and his blessing, and his blessing, launching out into the unknown is no longer scary. Why? Because it is not the unknown anymore – it is all known to Jesus. And we trust him!

Grace and peace,
Chaplain Bill

05/06/2026

Forgive me if this Thought for the Week is rather personal, but I am really serious now in the way I react to circumstances, and what the Scriptures can teach us. For me, it is the Holy Spirit in action, day by day, and moment by moment. I want so much to pass that on.

Thought for the Week
‘…let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.’ Hebrews 13:15 (NKJV)
Recently I was carrying my very full breakfast tray to the sunroom on my walker. And…..I tipped the whole thing up. No expletives, but I think I went close. It was then that I got thoroughly chastised by the Spirit. It was as if the Spirit was saying to me, “What are you doing? Just stand for a moment and give thanks.” What! Give thanks? I hesitated, but then I did it. And I started to laugh at the sight of my breakfast spreadeagled all over the floor, and it didn’t take long to pick it all up, and to start all over again. (Thankfully we have a wooden floor!) I learnt a lot from that experience, and ever since I have been trying not to allow anything to irk me. I am learning to stop and just look at whatever has happened, and give thanks. It changes the mood of the moment. The above verse tells us to continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God. To me, ‘continually’ now means, no matter what the circumstances. The more serious the circumstances the more important it is to stop and give thanks. To give thanks is a way of praising God. It really is a form of worship. Now don’t get me wrong, I said earlier that, “I am trying not to allow anything to irk me”. I am attempting to change a habit of a life-time, and that is not easy. Every time I have a win, though, I sit back and have a laugh with God. Yes, I laugh with God! And boy, what a difference that can make! I am starting to feel that what I am doing now is enabling me to enjoy life more, because I am not taking little setbacks so seriously. Indeed, I am not taking myself so seriously! And I am also feeling that I am allowing the Holy Spirit to become more active in my life. When I do that now with little things how much more ready will I be to listen to the Spirit when bigger and more important things happen! Can you see why the Scriptures tell us to give thanks in all circumstances? (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Grace and peace,
Chaplain Bill

Liam, was Baptised into Christ by the Army Regional Support Chaplain - South Australia Chaplain Skipper on Monday, 22nd May 2026 at Port Gawler Pontoon, Port Gawler South Australia. Liam was supported by his family, friends and members of MCF-A Edinburgh group.
Liam, a civilian, was introduced to Chaplain Skipper by a Defence family who are involved in MCF-A. After meeting and then a lot of talking to Chaplain Skipper Liam asked Chaplain Skipper if he would Baptise him.
Congratulations Liam welcome to the family of God Brother!
