Thank you for your contributions!

As we conclude our seven-year involvement with Harmony Alliance, one of the six National Women’s Alliances, we extend our sincere appreciation to the 600 members whose contributions have been vital to this initiative. Your dedication has been central to addressing systemic barriers and advancing the representation of migrant and refugee women in Australia.

We are particularly grateful to Nyadol Nyuon OAM, Chair of Harmony Alliance, for her exceptional commitment and leadership. Her efforts have significantly influenced our progress and impact.

We also thank the Office for Women, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and our colleagues across the National Women’s Alliances for their support. To all past and present Harmony Alliance Council members, partners, and contributors, we appreciate your efforts in creating meaningful change.

Through collective advocacy, research, and partnerships, Harmony Alliance has played a key role in influencing policies on gender equality, economic participation, and social cohesion. As this chapter concludes, we congratulate the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) as the new custodians of this work and look forward to its continued success under their leadership.

Social Policy Group remains committed to fostering inclusivity and developing policies that reflect the diversity of Australia’s communities. Thank you again for being part of this journey.

This week, the Australian Human Rights Commission launched the National Anti-Racism Framework—Australia’s first comprehensive roadmap to address systemic racism.

Key recommendations include:
📣 Embedding cultural safety and anti-racism training across workplaces, schools, and healthcare
🏛️ Legislative reforms to tackle racial discrimination
👩🏾‍💻 Community co-design to ensure inclusive solutions

Harmony Alliance, through its role in the Multicultural Advisory Group, proudly contributed to this vital work. We strongly support the call for increased funding to the AHRC to ensure these changes are implemented and monitored effectively.

Our Council member, Dr Sabrin Farooqi OAM, attended the launch, celebrating this milestone in advancing equity and inclusion for migrant and refugee communities.

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

In Australia, 1 in 4 women have experienced violence by an intimate partner since age 15 (AIHW). For women of migrant and refugee backgrounds, accessing support can be particularly challenging due to language barriers and cultural stigma.
Every woman deserves to feel safe. The Women’s Safety Hub provides multilingual resources on safety, healthy relationships, and support pathways to help women access the information they need.

We stand in solidarity with transgender and gender-diverse people. Many transgender migrants and refugees face compounded oppression—fleeing violence based on gender identity, culture, and ethnicity—while navigating barriers in their new communities.

We believe in the right to self-identify and the importance of gender-responsive services that address the unique needs of transgender migrants and refugees. Our intersectional approach to advocacy ensures that no one is left behind in the pursuit of equity and justice for all.

We strive to create a society where all women and gender-diverse individuals can live free from violence, fear, and discrimination.
