tablished in 2019, due to the high unmet health and wellbeing needs of the local Aboriginal Community residing in Canberra’s North Western Ngunnawal region. Yerrabi Yurwang means to walk strong and was bestowed upon the organisation by esteemed and respected Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea OAM, who is also a Founding Board Member of Yerrabi and our Inaugural Patron. Yerrabi is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Service, which means it is owned and operated by Aboriginal People, for Aboriginal People, and so, we are committed to the principle of self-determination, whereby we seek to engage and empower the Aboriginal People and their Families who utilise Yerrabi’s services. Building Generations of Strong Thriving Aboriginal Children Families & Communities...! We are currently operating from the Margaret Hendry School in Taylor, (ACT); however, our long-term vision is to provide a wholistic one-stop-suite of Aboriginal child and family support services. This will entail providing supports to Aboriginal families, additionally including advocacy and support to navigate both ACT Government and non-government human services systems. Yerrabi Yurwang Aboriginal child and family supports, (what we do):
• listening to our children and their families to ensure they receive wholistic, culturally safe and respectful services;
• developing, promoting, encouraging, and advancing broad-based community education to promote Aboriginal health and wellbeing in the home and community;
facilitating the development and understanding of culturally safe and respectful services;
• promoting a safe and caring support program for Kinship carers;
• developing resilience and respect for Aboriginal language, stories, and culture, starting with the Yerrabi Women's Gathering Group; and
• linkage to additional culturally appropriate supports and services.

Yerrabi is currently looking for a Community Engagement Officer to join our Early Childhood team in an Aboriginal Identified role.

This role is centred around working alongside Aboriginal children, families and community to support stronger early childhood outcomes through culturally grounded engagement, community led initiatives and program delivery.

The position works across playgroups, family programs, stakeholder engagement and community initiatives connected to the Connected Beginnings program, while also supporting pathways into early childhood education through the Aunty Agnes Shea Scholarships.

You’ll be joining a hardworking, supportive and community focused team committed to strengthening outcomes for Aboriginal children and families across the ACT.

Yerrabi is currently looking for a Family Practitioner to join our NarraGunnaWali Strengthening Families Program team.

This role is centred around supporting Aboriginal women, children and families impacted by family, domestic and sexual violence through culturally safe, trauma informed and community led practice.

The Family Practitioner will provide advocacy, intensive case management and wraparound support while working alongside families to strengthen safety, wellbeing, healing and long term resilience within community.

Yerrabi Yurwang is proud to share that our Yawarj Mara – Strong Pathways Young Men’s Group will be hosting an art exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre 😊

The exhibition showcases artworks and cultural pieces created by Aboriginal young men involved in the Yawarj Mara program, reflecting identity, culture, connection and the journeys of our young people across community.

Led by Yerrabi’s own Mitchell Daley, our Yawarj Mara young men’s program supports Aboriginal young people from Greater Belconnen, Gungahlin and North Canberra through culture, mentoring and connection to community and Country.

This exhibition is a powerful reflection of the voices, strength and creativity of our young men and we are incredibly proud to see their work displayed within such an important community space.

Koori Girls Group is back 😊

A culturally safe and supportive space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls aged 10+ to come together, build connections, and have some fun.

Each week includes a mix of hands-on activities, cultural learning, and wellbeing-focused sessions that support young people to grow strong, proud in their identity, and connected to community 💛

This term we’ve got a great lineup including scrapbooking, weaving, cuz boxing, candle making, plus excursions like BOUNCE, a picnic by the lake, and an end of term celebration.
